cenj
I got the sense that Webster wouldn't pull the trigger unless everyone was on the same page and that he wasn't going to make unilateral decisions. I thought it was obvious that Levitre and Warmack were short-term decisions intended to allow the team to run the ball and save Munchak's job. The he definitely needs to be gone. Either he evaluated and was sold on Warmack and Levitre (and the run game focus/lack of pass-rushers and DL), or he brought the wrong guys in because he wanted to appease the coaching staff in the short term. Either points to poor GM decision making.
Omar
He is the victim...for now. Locker was a MR draft pick, Webster had his input, but the final decision and blame has to go to the GM who made the pick. He also was stuck with a doofus coach and staff who had the full support of the owner. It was the owners hand picked guy, he had no choice other than to try and build a team to what that staff wanted. I have no doubt if Bud was still alive, Munch would still be here. Now we have a bunch of players who were drafted/signed for a different scheme and vision..and we are going in a totally different direction with a new and more qualified staff. Webster gets way too much blame, and should have more time to show what he can do.

He couldn't pass the GM duties to Webster quick enough. Not to mention that it's documented that Webster basically ran the draft even when MR was GM. OILERMAN
I listened to Florio today and he gave his top 5 on "the hot seat" and Webster was one of the 5 he mentioned. He specifically mentioned Whisenhunt's comments about the team not being as good as he thought and that being an indictment of Webster

Guys like Wimbley and Levitre aren't good in any scheme. Webster didn't handle the CB spot this season and Warmack wasn't worth his draft position

Guys like Wimbley and Levitre aren't good in any scheme. Webster didn't handle the CB spot this season and Warmack wasn't worth his draft position Webster has under-performed in a lot of areas, but one thing to consider is a lack of resources to put into the personnel department. That changed when Tommy Smith took over, as evidenced by a lot of re-arranging and added scouts to the pro personnel/football admin departments. Then again, Cincinnati does a way better job with a very minimal personnel department. Edited October 2, 2014 by tgo
TF_Titan
I'm willing to give the Webster/Whisenhunt partnership a couple of seasons to put the system in place and fill out the roster. Not that I won't bitch and moan when they suck ass like they have the last few weeks, but realistically you have to give them some time given that they don't have a QB and their defensive roster was built to play a 4-3. MIKE75
Cincy has done excellent in the draft. They've built a top ten offense and defense year by year. However the most important move they made by far was picking the correct QB. They were patient and in 2011 instead of reaching for a QB they got WR AJ Green in the first round and got Andy Dalton in the second round. Those two right there are why the offense is good. If Cincy reaches in 2011 and gets Ponder,Gabbert,Locker, etc. in the first round they not only miss out on Green but Dalton too and they basically suck and don't make the postseason period and Marvin Lewis is gone after 2011. Thats how important drafting is. Picking Locker screwed this team up no two ways about it it was a bad decision. If Mettenberger doesn't show he is the QB sometime this season then it is most likely in 2015 that this team will be picking a QB in a bad year to be picking one. Based on this teams track record that'll be four more years of the same 'ol same 'ol with the QB position. Somewhere down the line i'm guessing Whisenhunts best hope is to either bring in a free agent, trade for a veteran QB.
MIKE75
Maybe in the next draft Webster will draft another offensive lineman in the first round. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Better yet draft another duel threat QB in the first round. However if i had to guess i'd either say cornerback or wide receiver.

I've always enjoyed Cyrus' posts, but the more these last 5 years of posts get bumped, the more I see that he may just be a well spoken fool.
