I’m not sure that’s true. Volson has certainly started more, but both are probably at about the same level of competency. From what I’ve read he’s a high level backup and not a starter who struggles with pass protection. If that’s the plan, I feel even worse about it. Nah that's not my understanding - he was a 3 year starter in CIN, only missed 1 game in those three seasons, and then was knocked out all of 2025 with the shoulder. Some say he was their best OL for a long stretch there (low bar in CIN). This is what Drew Beatty said about him - "In what was quietly one of the Titans’ best signings of Day One, former Bengals guard Cordell Volson signed a one-year, up to $4.215 million deal with Tennessee. He missed all of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury, but proved to be a quality starting guard for Cincinnati in 2024. Volson consistently displayed a rock-solid anchor in pass protection, drive power as a run blocker, and an ability to efficiently work blocking in space. However, the medicals could prove to be an issue." Edited 4 hours ago by tgo Bongo59, Justafan, Callidus, and 4 others

TeamRamrod
I won’t pretend that I’ve studied him closely but I have no idea where this narrative comes from that Volson was good at some points. Justafan

Oh you're right, he did get benched for a couple games in favor of Cody Ford who had played really well filling in for Orlando Brown in 2024. So he started 48 of 50 games played. I think he has inherent athletic limitations and isn't a long term solution, but more than capable of starting for a period of time. Did not grade well per PFF. I’d say he’s capable of starting in the same way any backup is capable of starting if the normal starter is injured. But he is not a reliable starter. But he is not a reliable starter. Maybe, but I would classify him as more of a journeyman starting guard rather than a true career backup. Either way though, ultimately, neither one of these guys should be considered a potential long term solution. They're place holders at best for younger guys to develop. Justafan
So my question would be, do people feel better about Slater/Schlottman starting next to a rookie or A rookie center starting next to Volson?

I personally don't think a rookie center is in consideration. I think it's Slater or Schlottman at center and then Volson or a rookie at guard. Really hoping Slater earns the center job regardless of who starts at guard. Edited 3 hours ago by tgo

Bongo59
Nice shake up. I like the moves so far. Now they have to hit the draft and honestly, I am fine trusting them because they will get a stud at 4 no matter what slot they go and that is a win. titanskick8851
