Pragidealist
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46376492/tennessee-titans-brian-callahan-playcalling-duties-focused?fbclid=IwY2xjawNDfSJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETEyblpaU0dBc1hXZk96YVNoAR4daOrUPOGFZrJXFhIZ0YpfmA7LgIkKqbG-ppETW49BJP2tJCU3pGFBLFffqw_aem_mp1wbl7uryr2IV9FD77piw I thought this part was interesting. Did everyone else already know this? I knew it was collaborative with the head coach as more of an integrator and approver than a designer... (in any team) but i don't think I had this insight on how it was specifically allocated out with the Titans right now. "According to Callahan, constructing the offensive game plan from week to week will continue to be a collaborative process, relying on everyone to do their part. In addition to calling the plays, Hardegree is still in charge of the third-down game plan. Nick Holz remains the offensive coordinator and oversees the base downs for the offense. Wide receiver coach Tyke Tolbert and senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy are in charge of the red zone package. Running backs coach Randy Jordan oversees the screen game. " I always like to see more insights to how the sausage is made within organizations. Consistent high value process controls quality anywhere. So how they have set up their processes is interesting. Who owns what part of the 'bucket brigade" helps see where breakdowns are happening. Of course, these things can change without anyone knowing if they aren't working. I would love more detail on how each of these puts the plans together, how they get approved for the final game day and then put into the sheet card for the day of. Puck
yes, many teams employ a co-op approach.they didn't just implement this. people have been talking about this since Tuesday. the only real thing new is that Bo will now call plays Mythos27
Aramis
In essence no change at all. Maybe the calls get in quicker, but it’s likely the same ineptitude because the same owners are still involved (ex. RB coach is still doing screen plays and they still suck). Just because Callahan isn’t calling the plays, doesn’t mean he’ll better know the rules or have a better feel for the flow of the game. This is looking more like a change for the sake of change and nothing more. It’s the same shitty sausage in a new packaging. Cally is a dead man walking. Pragidealist
Did we already know those responsibilities? That was the part that was new to me. I know its a collaborative effort... but not who owns what and how it comes together. Did we already know each of those owners?

As fast as they have to do film review, plan out packages and them installed- i expected something like this. I just can't remember it being openly shared like that. So they play on Sunday. Film review on Monday. By Tuesday game planning and Wed/Thursday installs? Does that sound right or too slow?

Just the sub titles some coaches on our team had in the past. I cant even remeber who was what but under vrable we had run, pass and redzone guys. NashvilleNinja
May just be me, but it all seems so superfluous. This kind of "collaboration" is too much. Less is more. It's like the telephone game. How long does it take for the original vision for the offense to get lost when it has to go through so many different people's brains (filters)? How long does it take for the original vision for the offense to get lost when it has to go through so many different people's brains (filters)? No.. This is what I expected and why I am hesitant to say X sucks bc I know there are so many moving parts that I can't see. The time to do film review, game planning and then intalls with at least 2 practices for offense and defense is so fast.. I expected they had to do this. That's why I've said.. back to the days of being excited or interested in Vrabel- what a HC brings is their experience and oversight on the processes. Its not the actual plays. There is no "original" offense. Its a collection of the ppl creating it. Its how the offense forms with a HC and GM Vision - by who they hire and how they oversee the process. That's why its been so laughable when ppl say so and so 's offense sucks. Its a team effort. The coaches job- like any manager or executive is to hold ppl accountable, see problems in process and fix things when they don't work right. That may be things we never see.. like instead of John doing redzone installs they quietly make it Joe. ITs an organization and its management. To be clear- this not an excuse for Callahan. I didin't like Vrabel... but in the end.. its how they manage these things and we are just in horrible position to really see what is going wrong and where. The ORG has to be really good at determining that bc they know where the problems are and what decisions are being made by whom and how the information is approved or not- up until the final play call. Its also why.. when a coach is calling plays.. they have this list of plays that that the coaching staff created for those sitautions. I don't think its that important which one they call bc every play on that list is designed for that situation. Its more about- how well did the coaching staff create the options.. so that there were really no bad ones. Ultimately that all falls on the head coach.. as last line of accountability. But there are so many points of accountability to manage before it gets there that I have no idea who's actual "fault" it is in the end that we ran a busted screen. players, guy who designed teh play, guy who installed it or the guy who called it... too many points and all I really know... is that it didn't work. This can work if everyone is on the same page I suppose. The play calling does appear disjointed at times, however. Too many cooks with differing thoughts maybe? A lot of times you call plays to set up something bigger down the road a few plays later. Not seeing much of that, but then again you also need players with talent to execute, so… NashvilleNinja
Puck
Hopefully Bo incorporates more Play Action, Roll-out, Dike sweep , etc. type of plays. quick outs and screens can be successful, but this team just isn't ready (good enough) for that. hopefully what stops is running Pollard up the middle over and over and over, and for fucks sake get Chestnut more involved. alternate them if you have to , through off the opposing defensive rhythm I don't know if we see immediate results unless Bo has secretly been prepared for this all year. it won't be a big shocker if the offense comes out a bit flat

Bo is now just going to be the one with the sheet in his hand calling the play. He's not taking over what plays we put in for gameday. I'm sure he could still call anything he wants.. but that would be against the game plan. Pragidealist, and Mythos27
