Just based on this trailer, I'll be shocked if it gets a second season.

Go back and watch the first trailer for Game of Thrones. It didn’t exactly scream huge hit show either.

Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

I’m guessing 5 seasons. It’ll be solid, and the fans of GoT will watch of course, but I can’t see people getting as emotionally invested in this as they did from 2011-2019.

Also, it’s crazy to think that GoT ended 3 years ago already. That was probably the last “water cooler” TV show that we will ever see.

That preview is so odd. Shows almost never have that much content in a preview.

I've read the book on it.  I'll watch it when it is released.  I'm just not hyped about it.  They gotta earn the trust back.

"They" as in HBO or "they" as in Benioff and Weiss? Because B&W are not involved in HOTD.

Benioff and Weiss are garbage.  They = HBO.  Toss in GRRM not being able to push out the next book either also cools the embers.

Good news (as far as this new show in concerned) is that GRRM prioritized writing Fire and Blood and presumably however involved he is in this show over his main novels. So this time the show won’t get ahead of the material he has written.

I'm interested in how "loyal" the screenwriters are to the source material.  The Targ civil war (dance of the dragons) is laid out in its entirety but leaves quite a bit of space for the character interactions.  Will they have on staff to check and double-check each writing decision to ensure it makes sense and doesn't butterfly-effect into some bullshit due to short-sightedness?  Granted, D&D did some cool stuff when they filled in some gaps in the early seasons (Robert and Cersei having a long, honest conversation alone in S1), but that's where I'm coming from.

I don’t think they will deviate too much from the history GRRM laid out. But the real trick is that he basically only gave them a few chapters of a couple of books to base a series on.

I have no idea how involved he is in the writing of the TV series. Maybe he has been heavily involved and maybe not at all. But the books we have don’t really have anything close to the level of plot or dialog that the first few Song of Ice and Fire novels provided the original show.

This is why I'm thinking that anything beyond 3 seasons is probably asking too much, especially if GRRM isn't that much directly involved, even if it is a completed work.

I get it that good work shouldn't be "rushed", but let's also not act like GRRM is exactly in the same place in life that he was when he wrote the majority of the books of his that have been published. Maybe he just doesn't give a shit anymore. I mean, FFS... guy will be 74 in September. He first started writing these stories over 30 years ago when he was in his early 40s.

I'm not saying he doesn't care for the story, but after all these years and after all the success, failures, praise, and criticism he's gotten how can anyone expect the same fire to be there?
