Mariota had em and he didn't pan out. I'm excited about Ward but its mostly because he isn't Will Levis. I do think he has more potential than Will and I'm hoping like hell his game translates to the NFL smoothly and efficiently. I just think when you start coming up with reasons to be excited that don't mean anything it's kinda dumb. some examples... His passion is what sets him apart....apart from what? a below avg. QB class? He did win the draft but you don't have to look far back in history to see that doesn't mean anything. The organization is behind him...great...they were also behind Levis. Again meaningless...but yes it would suck if they weren't behind him. and one of my favs that I've heard all draft long...he's grown every step of the way...that's just putting a positive spin on the fact that he's not an elite can't miss prospect like a Manning or Luck. so I'm not shitting on anyone for being excited...I'm excited...just do it without being a homer. and for the record I'm glad we drafted him and I was hoping more for a trade when the process began but after seeing enough cut-ups of his play and listening to a dizzying amout of break downs I think he has the potential to make it at the next level but not because he threw the football at 1:30 am after draft night. and I keep in mind that probably 75-80% of the shit I watched on him was from people who probably had no idea of what they were even watching. I’m definitely not being a homer. But most all of this seems fair and reasonable. I personally think the “feel good” aspects of his story are more lending to the type of person/player he is, and how it’ll help him succeed. I don’t recall seeing a whole lot pre-Mariota that screamed he had good work ethic and the drive to be successful. That was also a long time ago. His passion is what sets him apart from previous failures. I could give two shits less about the QB class. This is a way different regime, too. And so far, they seem like they are pretty good. Although, I’m sure your friend Bud would probably try and find the negativity in all of that because that’s what the dude lives in. But, I digress. We agree more than we disagree, so I’ll apologize for being quick to chastise (it’s TR, after all). bizzyeddie

Being ready and anxious to perfect your craft at any hour of the day is what makes people great at their professions. If it's a 1 off, sure, it's dumb. If he did it just for a camera crew to see... then I'm a half foot out the door. But if it's representative of the competitive approach he takes and its a common thing for him to destress or work on the details of the game to perfection not matter the time- it's not exactly hogwash. At the least it's football related. It's not the same senseless hype like making the bed... or being McNairs protege'.. or getting his grad degree in his first 4 years... or whatever locker had. it could ultimately mean nothing of course but that type of thing more often means something. But as of now, all it is is a selling point to fans. Because there's nothing else to talk about. I get how that is annoying and useless until we see results, but this feels like a good bit more relevant than the above examples. I'm of the opinion that he was just drafted to the NFL, just became a rich young man and couldn't turn the mental circus off long enough to go to sleep. What better way to wither the night away than go out and heave the old pigskin around? After all, that's now his very lucrative job. Don't read too much into it. It was nerves. With that said, I'm pretty pumped about having my team pick him. This is the first quarterback the franchise has picked, that I actually wanted them to take, since McNair. OILERMAN
The laughable thing about Mariota making his hotel bed in the morning is it's from the concept that successful people start their day off early getting things done. It's a correlation/causation type thing. Making your bed every day doesn't make you a disciplined go-getter, being a disciplined go-getter makes you start the day off completing tasks(making bed). Mariota clearly heard/read this and started making his bed. After we saw the Netflix Doc it's obvious Mariota didn't have the drive and discipline to be a franchise QB. His prop wife had to coach him with the game plan and he had to be kept from eating at McDonalds every day. Mariota was just a total fraud in every way, EVERY way! This doesn't appear to be Cam Ward. He's going to be working non stop to be the best QB by all accounts. XAEA12, BudsOilers, Pragidealist, and 1 other 2

A little adjustment can create other problems that need a little adjustment. Will was worse after his adjustments. They keep mentioning Joe B. What little adjustments did bc do to his mechanics? I would rather the main focus be helping him read defenses. Is this for real?
TheBukafax
Too much homerism and positivity, starting to smell like bitch in here. Ward is clearly a bust just like every young QB drafted by the Titans, no pun intended.

BudsOilers
Well Ruston Webster was a horrible GM for one and classic case of over drafting out of pure need.....But everything @OILERMAN says about Mariota is spot on. Total fraud across the board.....from being some great leader and disciplined worker to the prop wife..... OILERMAN

Recent times - Ruston was the worst....Ran was on his way to trying to match him. Quiver Chins and Reese were really similar. Good to build up the roster and awful at maintaining it at a high level. You know who gets a free pass for being a GM when they were awful for the most part? Bum Phillips, despite drafting two HOF players in Brazile and Campbell......Traded high picks like they were candy for washed up veterans and the awful early 80's were mainly on his shitty roster building.
