How in the hell does Colt Anderson still have a job? Maybe because his unit showed vast improvement the last 6 weeks after they got some real special teams guys ans jettisoned the fumbling returner in Jackson? Coverage units got better, penalties dropped, and even stonehouse started getting more hang time and being better with directional punts. scine09, IsntLifeFunny, TylerRoseFan, and 1 other

Historically bad. If you want to blame that on personnel, that's fine, but I don't see how anyone can look at the coverage units and punt block units and say it was just Jackson and a couple of back-end roster guys holding back STs. At some point, if everyone on the unit is incompetent, they had an entire offseason to recognize that and do something about it.

It was real bad to start but the entire unit showed tons of improvement and 6 weeks is a long stretch of the season, especially to end the season. Wouldn't surprise me if he saved his job. scine09, and IsntLifeFunny

Over the last 6 weeks of the season, they were still allowing long returns, including an 80-yard return by Pierce, and they still had spotty tackling and missed assignments all year. You say it was greatly improved, but I don't see that. I think it got marginally better, but it was still bottom of the league. Certainly not promising enough to justify keeping a lousy coach. The last six weeks definitely wasn’t bottom of the league in special teams play. It actually became fairly solid. There’s no reason to fire a coach if his unit improved the way it did. oldschool

I am talking about the last six weeks. From the Washington game to the second Houston game. I know the numbers stunk overall. But I would not fire him as things improved. He was a first time coach who didn’t have the players and they fixed the problems that plagued them early with the punt blocks and returns. I am not a fan of firing people, particularly after their first year, unless things are bad and not improving. I think had the improvement after the first Houston game not taken place I’d feel differently.
Popular Post OILERMAN
Honestly Carthon had a lot to do with the STs struggles early on. He bypassed keeping bottom roster guys who were good at STs for positional players. Chesnutt over Haskins for example BudsOilers, TylerRoseFan, ChesterCopperpot1, and 6 others

They improved on punt return coverage, but their kick return coverage was still awful, and it's the one that matters.

I was referring to the last six weeks when the numbers across the board were good. oldschool

That's what you're going to hang your hat on to prove your point? Okay. It still doesn't change the fact that this idea that the STs unit were actually good the last part of the season is pure fantasy. It's simply not true. One bad return over 6 weeks doesnt negate the obvious improvements in coverage overall.

It's really not. STs improved dramatically over the last 6 weeks. Go watch the games.

They gave up a 30 yard return against the Bengals, they gave up FOUR 30+ yard returns against the Colts, a 32 and 31 yard return against the Jags, and a 32 and a 34 yarder against the Texans. The numbers are terrible. YOU go watch the games dummy. freakingeek
