BudsOilers
Some of their key guys are older so expecting them to be as good or as healthy is farfetched.
scine09
There’s a reason some coaches declined to interview there. Edited March 27, 2025 by scine09

Dan Brugler and Robert Mayes discuss. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-best-case-scenarios-and-biggest-flaws-for/id1528622068?i=1000701026714 Very fair and objective takes. Worthy of the #1 pick and is hurt personally by all the talk about it being a mediocre QB class. They say after Ward it's bad, he would have been among the QB last year after the top 2-3 prospects. Pros: Can execute from the pocket and within structure. Processes and delivers passes with anticipation. This is what has impressed me. Other Titan QB draft picks lacked this fundamental ability that you need to excel in an NFL passing game. Ward already has it. He's improved dramatically every year he's played since HS. Was a late starter and didn't go through all the passing camps many prospects do etc... Manipulates the pocket well. Compares his scrambling to Mahomes. Wisely takes what the defense gives him without elite QB speed. Cons: Too often plays hero ball, occasionally throws the WTF pass. Reckless at times. Drifts in the pocket too often. Comp/Ceiling: To @BudsOilers credit Brugler compares him to Kyler Murray(the passing angles mostly) but in a complementary way. Says Ward can be the good version of Murray, when he played like an MVP in stretches. Says a top 10 QB is possible. Since the season ended and I've seen more of Ward I'm totally on board with him at 1 and I personally think he'll be a good QB. Have to say I was pretty surprised and happy that they also comped him to Watson. That’s the comp I made a couple of weeks ago and haven’t seen anyone else say it. I think it’s spot on

Sure, they are looking at a cap mess in the very near future, which they pushed back yet again. That doesn’t mean that they can’t win games in 2025. But beyond that? Not many coaches want a team on the brink of a rebuild where getting fired in 3 years seems downright likely.

Watson in Houston was great for the most part. To be fair with the Murray comp they were talking about when he was healthy and mentioned as an MVP candidate as the aim Number9

His best year there was Bortles like on a 4 win team and prior to that DHop was prime. His accuracy and decision making were always nothing special. Murray when he's on is great but his six years of flashes and then meh and one playoff appearance/bad loss speaks for itself.

I actually agree to a point on Watson and posted at the time he was slightly overrated, but even with that he was firmly a top 10 QB his entire time in Houston. The season you reference had out of this world advanced stats on BTT and those stuff. Watson was taken 12th and Ward reminds me of him coming out and is a good QB prospect in that range. Some of their positives and weaknesses and even their style look similar to Watson at clemson
BudsOilers
I remember situationally in some games vs the Titans where he was awful and thinking how in the hell is he regarded like a top tier guy. On the surface, I think Ward is way better than him in those aspects as well as the off the field intangibles.

I said last year and I'll say it again, I think they're the worst team in the league. And, probably more importantly, their situation is the most hopeless in the league. Yeah, maybe they'll win five or six games. Great. What does that do? Nothing. Instead of going out and signing has beens like Brandin Cooks they really need to just stop trying to pretend to be competitive, be bad for a year or two and reset. I don't know if you follow the NBA but they remind me of the Chicago Bulls. They won't just tear it down and reset. They should do what teams like the Wizards and Nets have done. Trade their older players, get draft picks, stop pushing the cap hit into future years and be bad for 2025 and 2026. They had a good run, won a Super Bowl with Brees, got to, what was it, two other championship games? It's over. Time to move on. I think coaches can see that and know that it's not going to end well there. Who knows why Moore took the job, I guess someone has to, but it's not a good situation. scine09
If Ward is anything like Watson from 2017-2020 then whichever teams drafts him hit a home run. As Titans fans if they draft Ward we can only hope he's as good as Watson was in that period of time. It's why four teams were willing to basically give up the farm to get him, and one team actually did. I think without the off the field issues that he had which seemed to take away his confidence he was quickly heading to top five QB status year in and year out. Supdawg
For the record, I've warmed up nicely to Cam Ward, and am cautiously optimistic he can be really good. Number9, and Titandan 1
