Yeah…I’m trying not to get annoyed yet. The timing feels off. Was a potential staff not discussed during his interviews? I haven’t felt any sort of urgency even though he and Ran both skipped the Senior Bowl. Hopefully they’ve talked to a lot more names than we know about from the media.

I’m sure they have. Do they even have to interview for non coordinator positions? Some of these guys might be simple phone calls and then the answer is “yes I want to work with you but let me check with my agent on how much money I need to make it happen.” Or “no I don’t unless you promote me to this position.”

Turns out it's easier to hire quality assistants if you're not a control freak dickhead.

Callahan just said Wilson will have complete control and autonomy over the defense.

i don't get a sense the timing is off at all. They hired BC pretty quickly. The season isn't even over yet. And they're working on the staff.

Personally I think the Senior Bowl is overrated. Scouts are there anyway.

A lot of deals and relationships get made there and in the bars/restaurants days before the draft.

yeah but that's not really scouting related per se.

that's a "nice to have" imo.

I really did think with the news getting out last night of all the coaches we’re letting go, we would have heard something today in regards to a hire.  One week without anything substantive in regards to his staff seems rather slow.  Or maybe I’m just impatient.

So we are crediting Bowen for the seasons he had Schwartz baby-sitting, and writing off the years he wasn't baby-sat as a lack of talent?

Bowen with a depleted defense 21.6 ppg

schwartz loaded defense in Cleveland 21.3

That sounds great until you realize how they were going ultra-conservative and running at one of the highest rates in the league, which artificially kept scoring low and made the defense look much better than it was.

Oh you mean how they went ultra conservative in 2019 with pees and ran the ball 15 times and 14 times in the first two playoff wins

which artificially kept the scoring low

Lol...it's takes a special kind of person to compare Bowen to Schwartz.

I honestly cant believe the numbers are that similar.  They are though. I mean if Bowen can get his WHOLE defense to match his redzone defense i would not complain. We shall see.

You’re the one saying Schwartz baby sat him, did you not ?

wash the pesticide off your corn cobs and come back with a better formulated argument

Everyone knows Schwartz was brought in as his baby-sitter...except you apparently.  If you aren't familiar with Bowen's history here, then how about you sit this one out, kiddo.

The Browns had a legit division (3 playoff teams + Cincy).  To try using one stat from one year to claim two coordinator are similar is ludicrous.  Here is how they compare fully:

We allowed offenses to run 82 more plays, 80 more first downs, had half as many turnovers, and the expected points contributed by defense...-69 vs. +90.

Bowen isn’t a bad DC, so if BC can’t hire someone better then it’s a reasonable option to just keep him.

But if they can get an up and comer like Dennard Wilson, absolutely kick him to the curb for a new guy.

With MacDonald going to the Seahawks, bet Wilson is promoted to DC

Entirely possible. Probably even likely.

But there are reasons why an assistant might want to take a promotion elsewhere rather than simply take the same promotion from his current team.
