begooode
Bridgegate crippled Chris Christie locally, but one of the biggest 'mistakes' he made in the new repub party was working together amicably with Obama to rebuild NJ after Hurricane Sandy. The maga party doesn't want that, at least not publicly -- it's all about the performative fight! But they have no shame in taking credit for government projects they voted against when it's time to cut the ribbon. It's galling, only made worse by knowing their infotainment bubble further rewards this kind of behavior. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2013/04/29/obama-chris-christie-hurricane-sandy/2120443/ IsntLifeFunny, Starkiller, and OILERMAN

They have different ideas about how to go about that but that doesn't make them your, mine, or anyone else's enemy. For the sake of arguent, let’s just assume this is true. For example, polls say most Republican voters want moderate gun control, higher taxes on the wealthy, and some form of legalized abortion. That seems like the regular traditional Republican voter might be reasonable. But then they turn around and vote for candidates who want to ban all abortion, cut taxes on the wealthy, and refuse to support universal background checks. You say these voters are rational, but their voting record says otherwise. Well stop pretending both sides are the same. Trump didn’t try to get a border bill passed even though they could have negotiated one. We had one under Biden largely written by the GOP and they killed it to appease Trump. Obama tried to get a border/immigration deal done but Republicans refused to negotiate. It’s not both sides. One party is willing to negotiate to come to a deal. The other refuses to negotiate. Edited March 1, 2024 by Starkiller WG53, and MadMax

Desantis (famously in his high heel Cowgirls boots) had Biden visit after the last big hurricane in Florida. He took that federal money, but was standoffish the whole time playing for the cameras. Republicans are bunch of whiny bitches… MadMax, and IsntLifeFunny

It means fanatical tribalism and posturing rules the mindset, irrespective of REAL suffering of fellow Americans — just as it does for even discussing gun safety and it did in 2020 dealing with Covid. We are a 2 party system, and when one party has effectively become radicalized enough to ignore, to deny mass suffering for political purposes, we suffer as a nation. When that party has become so aggrieved that it will blindly follow and raise up the worst demagogue in our lifetimes, it means our political incentives and the fourth estate are broken and no longer aligned with the American ideal. Justafan
Just now, Starkiller said: “Also, both candidates failed at the border” They have. That's my opinion. You don't get to tell me not to have it. That's not an equivalency or pretending that both sides are the same. They clearly aren't. I just don't think Biden fixed the border. You can argue all night about why that is. I told you, pleaded really, that I don't care to get sucked back in. Feel free to have that conversation but I'm not going down that rabbit hole with you. If you have a problem with that, I don't know what else to tell you.
Starkiller
OK, then don’t respond to this, but here’s why your argument is terrible… The border is a mess, has been a mess for decades, and will remain a mess until the laws governing immigration are changed by Congress. You and other conservatives can complain that Biden hasn’t fixed the border until the cows come home, but it’s Congress that has to fix the laws. Trump tried to build a wall, which failed. He kidnapped children from their parents, which failed. He had immigrants packed into concentration camps, which failed. He did all sorts of things that he tried to do through executive action (legally or not) and they all failed to improve the immigration problem. Biden isn’t going to be able to do shit to fix the problem until Congress negotiates a bill. So complaining that the border is a mess under Biden if a fucking cop out. Unlike Trump, Biden tried to get a law passed to improve the border. It was largely written by Republicans. Democrats did not demand extra amnesty for immigrants, a pathway to citizenship, or any dispensation for Dreamers. The bipartisan bill was set to pass the Senate, but Trump and Republicans killed it. They killed it because they don’t want the border to get better. They want the border to continue to be a mess so they can campaign on the issue and continue to win votes from suckers who think it’s somehow the fault of Democrats. nine
You guys are making this WAAAY to complicated. We could dramatically decrease the country’s immigration issues virtually overnight by adopting Trump’s solution for covid cases and applying it to border security: “Stop counting immigrants!!!!” Problem solved. You’re welcome. MadMax, IsntLifeFunny, and Starkiller 2
