There will for sure be madden 64 references a plenty...and I bet some Eddie George and VY references as well. I just went down a very short rabbit hole. I always thought Eddie was the first ever player cover for Madden with 2001. But technically he was the first featured player on the main US version of the game. There was a European version with Garrison Hearst in 99 and the 2000 US version had Barry Sanders faded in the background but Madden was still the feature. The curse became a thing and people were refusing to be on the cover hahah. What was likely happening was just that Players had a massive season where they touched the ball a lot.
