The crazy company sponsored violence (esp in the south) vs reasonable labor organizations primarily trying to secure better health conditions . All the blackballing, the freezing out of employment, in government and important industries, most notably Hollywood, media. How the red scare also gave rise to abusive "keepers of secrets" like J Edgar Hoover and countless specious investigations. This stuff can no longer be minimized as only a marginal force with repubs, esp given their minority status and unwillingness to compromise, or even govern effectively.
