Authoritarians tend to have more to lose than to gain by directly involving their country in a war. The big countries generally don’t want to fight each other, though they are happy to commit to proxy wars.

These nation states that are solely dependent on fossil fuels as the base of their economic output will make war (like you say, often via proxy) - but what I worry more about longer term is the displacement of populations due to Climate Change and economic downfall. At some point in the more distant future resources will be more scant than the number of those seeking them for survival. Of course I'm serious - and please don't mention something ridiculous like gas prices unless you are congratulating Biden on keeping gas prices much lower than in any other developed Western economy by releasing strategic oil reserves and facilitating increases in domestic supply. (Presidents don't have much at all to do with gas prices in case you don't realize that) Biden's administration is also about to extend ACA subsidies to all the families that were granted extensions in the ARP as well and has unemployment at historic record lows. So yes, please tell me how Biden is hurting families. It's a laughable and ridiculous notion. Oh and don't say something totally ignorant like blaming him for post-pandemic global consumer inflation when the US is under-pacing all developed economies on this as well. Highest credit card debt of all time, highest number of people working 2 jobs, labor shortages, over worked, inflation, supply chain issues like baby formula, and I thought presidents had no impact on gas prices? Dude Biden single handedly fixed the baby formula shortage issue lol The issue arose because of a monopolistic company having to shut down a domestic factory due to contamination. Biden responded by using military planes to fly in baby formula from around the world and also worked with Abbott to get the plant up and going again!
