The president can have some impact thru executive action and the veto. But the primary agency directly charged with controlling inflation is the Federal reserve bank because they control interest rates and can buy/sell bonds. He clearly miscalculated and that is why they just recently raised rates by 75 basis points which is unheard of and an attempt to correct his past mistake. There are other problems as well. Including supply chain issues in the private economy due to the pandemic. Not sure how the federal government can do a lot to solve this issue? The government just can't manufacture more chips for cars for example. In addition, there is a huge housing shortage (most economists say about 3M units) that has been a decade long dating back to the 2008 housing crash, in the making. This shortage increases rents and and also home values. Guess what happens when owners get a lot of home equity? Some of them borrow against it and spend, creating even more consumer demand.
