What happened to Marcus Mariota?

Stats can tell a story.  You would rather it be blamed on everybody but him.  Other team, coach, talent around him, injury, but he's the only constant.  Rookies play through coaching changes.  You tell me to look at the games, but I see stats praising Mariota.  Now, I may be wrong,  It's happened before.  But I'm telling you the light went out in Chicago.

You blame coaches.  Did they tell him to start throwing WTF passes?  Before the Steeler's game in 2017, "Ok Marcus, we're going to trick the Steelers by throwing them the ball."

Something happened to HIM.  He was playing awful before he hurt his funny bone.

The bye week followed the CHI game, so it must have been something that happened to him during his week off in N'ville.

Maybe he was out and about on his days off and ran into some local "fans."

What particular hit did he suffer vs. Chicago? The box score indicates 0 sacks (which, I know aren't everything) and Chicago had quite a no-name defense at that time (I know, I am a Bears fan).

Frankly, I don't know.  Sacks aren't the only big hits a QB takes, knockdowns are worse.  He used to stand in the pocket and throw the ball, but since Chicago he flies out of there.

He was never going to be an elite passer. He's deficient, not even so much with the long ball, but with the deep out stuff. The strong armed spot throws the big armed QBs can make. The hope was that with his athleticism, mobility, smarts and "LEADERSHIP" he could make up for some of that.

He's just hurt too fuckin' much. Even when he doesn't miss games, you can tell when he playing at 75%. It's kinda starting to look like a pattern too! (No, really!)

Has anyone here seen him in person? How slight is he?

I'll give you all those points.  When he came in he was more willing to play the position like it should be played.  He could have maybe developed a better long ball, but that's when QBs get hit and he quit taking chances.  He runs like the pocket is on fire and doesn't really try to beat defenses with a scramble play.

That is his biggest knock by far. It's not that he can't read defenses, can't make decisions, can't understand offenses. It's not that he isn't tough either. The guy has numerous 4th quarter comebacks under his belt, including one in the playoffs. He makes dumb decisions sometimes but that's due to competitive nature and just trying to do too much.

What has hurt him, and would hurt any QB, as much as missing time due to injury, is the merry-go-round of shit decisions the organization has made in surrounding him with both a shit team and/or shit coaching.

This year with Vrabel was the first time in his career he's been surrounded by competent coaching but even that was hamstrung by injury and by losing key players on offense. Also, the oline grossly underperformed for most of the year. Some would have you believe the 11 sacks he took against Baltimore were all his fault, but they just have a warped sense of a QB's job description.

Well, McNair was 6'2" 230 lbs. Mariota is 6'4" 220lbs. He may look slight, but he's bigger/heavier than people think.

Mariota threw 26 TD and 9 INT in 2016

Mariota threw 24 TD and 23 INT in 2017 and 2018 combined.

This cannot be explained by bad teammates, coaches and even injury, unless you accept he's injury prone and are just done with him.  I don't know if you watch his 2015-2016 highlights, but Mariota was making a lot of throws that have vanished.  He also, ran out and looked to throw.  You can see him looking at more than one option.  He had poise in the pocket.  You just can't blame that away on everybody else or even injury.  Instead of a QB coach, maybe he need a shrink.

Maybe a shrink can get him to go back, find the hits that scared the bejesus out of him and help him past it.

titans_no.0.gifGood Marcus, but think back to Chicago or maybe before.

Looking at past highlights, I'm worried they messed with his mechanics too much. The ball ripped out of his hands the first few seasons and this last year it looked pretty flimsy at times. Sure that could be the injury, but I remember it in the preseason and miami game as well.

Missing::Marcus Mariota, 6' 4" 220LB, QB.  Last seen in Chicago, November 11, 2016.  He was wearing a Titans Jersey with the number 8 on it.

REWARD $120,000,000.00

Thay game was on the anniversary of 9-11? It all makes sense now.

You can always count on Number9 to add another weak thread to the pool of countless Mariota threads already existing.

I actually more or less agree with this one.  #9 is on the money with his question(s) here.  What did happen?

It's a question not near enough N'ville fans are asking.

Personally, I think Mularkey and Robiskie and Michaels "fixed" Marcus.  Then LaFleur and O'Hara came along and "fixed" him some more.

He's no longer the natural decision maker and thrower he once was.  That player so many of the pundits in that highlight video raved about.
