Official Terry Robiskie Apology thread

I already posted on another thread, admitting Mularkey/Robiskie took the correct approach in believing that Mariota could handle all of the immediate adjustments he had to take on in order to execute an offense that was far different from anything he was comfortable with.  Results are what counts, so the bad earlier games Mariota went through via crash course was justified by the quicker development in Mariota.

What I apologize to Mularkey/Robiskie for, is that I saw them as these philosophically inflexible coaches who were unwilling to bend in order to prove their point, but what the later games have shown me is that they were willing to adapt the offense to make Mariota more comfortable, and even throw away things that just didn't work.  Mularkey/Robiskie, I apologize for misjudging you.

Now, I wonder if there's gonna be a similar Mariota apology thread.  :D

While I credit Mularkey and Robiskie, especially their willingness to adjust after the early games, I think Mariota is just this good. With his accuracy and release speed, I think he can be a success in just about any offense given the time to adjust.

This is the first year these guys have been together Mariota, Robiske, Grimm, LeBeau, Mularkey, and JRob...It is exciting to think what could be around the corner with a few more puzzle pieces and some time to jell...Beats the heck out of the last 12 or so seasons of run, run, pass, and punt...

they are clearly coaching Mariota up and improving his game and weaknesses

This is what's happening.  I saw some backhanded compliment that they are doing good because of Mariota.  Wshit was going to get Mariota killed.  He wasn't making Wshit look good.  Robiskie is designing plays that have Titans receivers running wide open all over the field.  These plays are run out of the base offense teams have on film and are prepared for.  Except here comes a new wrinkle.  Back up, here comes Murray.  Even with Lewan going down, the team knows what they are doing.

This is a first class rookie QB offense.

The running game wasn't all that effective yesterday beyond the 1st play. as Murray slows down more is being put on Mariota and he's delivering.

I am very excited for the future of this offense and the future of Mariota.

I was skeptical of the Robiskie hire, and I think that made me judge him to quickly.

You know, some coaches play to their QBs strengths  (think Kaep, and RG3) and they get fast results, but ultimately don't sustain. other coaches (think whiz) are so stubborn and inflexible in their systems, that it makes it hard for anyone to be successful.

Mularkey and Robiskie have a nice blend. they aren't so inflexible that MM is suffering, yet they havent just catered 100%to his strengths so that he can't develop.

There's no crow on my plate because I've supported AAS and her decisions, I supported her choice of Mularkey (although I wasn't happy about the interview process) and I've believed in Mariota from the gitgo. I was critical of Robiske early on but he has adapted the play calling to our players strengths and we are putting up numbers like we haven't seen since we had McNair and Dinger. This organization and staff has brought Titans pride back to Music City.

Robiskie has called several great games in a row, including the Indy game (Mariota was terrible and made the playcalling look worse).I didn't believe he'd be this good adapting which make no mistake, he has.

Earlier in the year, we were running too many condensed formations on 3rd downs with every receiver running short routes. Teams cheated in to stop the run and these all short playcalls left virtually no room for error by Mariota and extremely muddy reads with tight windows. They absolutely did not put him in the best situations. Plus, the trick playcalls and constant movement before the snap did very little but create false start penalties.People argued that they weren't throwing downfield because our receivers were too slow, which if true, is an indictment on the staff for putting all their eggs into the Wright basket.

But the playcalling has absolutely gotten better. It's way more unpredictable. We are clearly spreading the field out more and throwing deep, and what do you know? Guys like Matthews are getting open deep. The offense is now threatens and is successful with explosive plays. There is way more room in the middle of the field for crossing routes and Walker is feasting. The game is slowing down for Mariota, but he's also allowed to read individual matchups and throw accurately instead of 3 yard slants that LBs and DBs are jumping. The run game was mostly shut down yesterday after the big play -- we torched them through the air.

So yes -- much better execution and fewer mental errors, Mariota playing much better, but also a more more varied gameplan that has cleaned up Mariota's reads and allowed him to push the ball downfield.

Robiskie needs to apologize to us for not letting marcus play in a real offense the first 4 games of the year.

I'm glad this shit is coming together nicely now... though there's still like 2-3 plays a game that are head scratchers or we just dont have the personnel to run.
