This argument has been made and is ridiculous. Try and "jab" someone with the end of a bat and see how long you live. The bat's only real use in this battle is by swinging it for impact. Justafan
I think some of you are far overestimating the value of a bat. And your capabilities with said bat. If your backpedaling while swinging a bat, knife guy has probably already won. You miss with a bat and a guy with a knife is inside and then it's over. You have to do damage with the bat or it's useless because if I can get one major cut or stab with the knife, you're in big time trouble. I want to see one of these guys using this bat like they're Steven Segal. I also want to see the dummy who stands there and takes jabs to the face from the end of a bat. Do you know how fast someone could get inside of you? This is obviously not the same scenario but it does a good job showing how fast someone with a knife can cover 5-10 feet and stab someone. A 25-26" ash LS is easily wielded and provides an additional 2 feet of reach. A policeman's nightstick is a perfect example of a defensive bat. One thump to the head, shoulder, torso or even the forearm or lower leg is going to do damage, and at least partially incapacitate. The trick is not to go for the knockout with every poke/swing. And it can be used to block the knife swings. Legaltitan

pat
+3ft of reach is big margin for error. Have you guys sparred or is this conjecture? All the pro knife videos show a knife vs a unsuspecting opponent. Without the element of surprise it's not as strong. Surely you're not going to argue that a knife is better than a gun just because of that dumb cop video? Legaltitan
pat
it's a missed step that is deadly to the batter, not a missed swing. Legaltitan

Of course. But anyone with any training at all isn't looking to end the fight with a single blow. That's the thing. The bat can be used defensively as well as offensively. The knife has very little use defensively, you either stab or slash, but both are offensive moves. The bat can go from defense to offense in a blink. I'll take the bat. Titanjuicy
I think the guy with the bat swings and misses. The guy with the knife uses that against him and stabs him. While doing this, the guy with the bat is now in full swing again and knocks the guy with the knife out, killing him after repeated blows to the head while bat guy bleeds out. Result....double homicide.

While you're trying to change grips to jab you're stabbed repeatedly. After you miss without connecting you're dead. The batter has the reach advantage for sure, but the knife has advantages too, maybe as many or more.
