scine09
Locker was off target maybe 4 times the entire game. Go back and re-watch it. Omar
Cyrus
Here they come. Locker was clean most of the 2nd half. I'm willing to have an honest debate about locker but I'm not wasting my time if posters can't be honest about his play. If honesty is admitting that he's Tebow-esque then we can't agree (can't make basic reads, passes, etc). If honesty is saying that he had an average game with a very conservative offense intending to run out the clock, then yes we agree. My whole opinion is that we can't draw any real conclusion about the caliber of his play from this game. It was thoroughly average. His stock is flat. Not up, not down. Flat. I think that's a very fair and accurate assessment of his play.

big2033
Locker did not play well overall. Settled a bit in the second half, but still, not good. You can make the excuse that it was his first week, in this new offense, with a ton of pressure versus a confusing Steelers defense. But overall, you have to say thumbs down on the performance. I still have faith in him though. As for Chris Johnson. I said before I'll say again I'm not sure you guys know what constitutes "decisive CJ running" anymore. Please, please go back and re-watch his big games in the 2009 season. The big Jacksonville game is a good example. And you'll see the same player running the same way. Chris is a very, VERY, patient runner, that will wait (what you guys call dancing or tip toeing) on a hole to develop until the very last moment until he darts through. He's capable of this more than most players because he's so fast. Certain runs look more "decisive" because the hole materializes quicker. These happen more often on runs up the gut or between the guard and tackle. The off-tackle runs take longer to materialize. It's why he has so many cutback runs, cutbacks materialize because he slowly drags the whole defense to the sideline, then he uses his speed to change direction on them... where there's nobody to tackle him. It's why the weakside linebacker just won't move anymore. But he still catches players. It's just hard to do against a healthy Troy Palumalu and the Steelers defense. The CJ argument has pushed so many into putting a microscope on every CJ run. And you guys have found things you think are flaws, but it's really the same way he's always played. I remember even in CJ's 2009 season I expected every run to be 80 yards "if CJ ran that way" or "If CJ hit it just a bit faster..." Then I realized CJ is so different that you can't really be sure what you're seeing with him. Every 3yard CJ run looks like it could've been better because it's CJ. Every 3yard run with Battle or Greene looks like he got what he could. Oilerman's mind is made up, he's going to see what he wants. But Oldschool, you seem rational, I think you should take a look at his old games. Because I see the same player. Not playing well, overall, which I think is debatable, is a big difference than being "scary bad" and "embarrassingly off target," both of which are not accurate statements. He just did not look calm and in control, although to his credit he seemed to settle down. Then I thought; shouldn't we expect more from a top10 pick, esp when many of his peers are successful? Frustration sets in. Since Mac's mvp window does every pass from a Titan QB have to be a mini-drama?
Cyrus
Then honesty would also ask the question: "why is the offensive game plan SO conservative in the first place", yes? Because the Titans defense was thoroughly dominating the Steelers and the offense was holding onto the ball and running out the clock. Look at what happened to the Chargers. They kept throwing the ball in the second half, made mistakes and lost the game. They didn't trust Mathews (likely for ball control reasons) and let the Texans back into the game. The Titans let Locker throw the ball deep on 3rd and long. (which he converted at least twice) They even trusted him to throw it in the redzone on third down. (where he checked it down). pat, and Pragidealist
scine09
Steve McNair had a game against the Steelers in his MVP season where he attempted 16 passes. The opener the next year he attempted 14 passes and completed 9 of them. Were the Titans hiding Steve McNair those days? Omar
If the pass protection was not good, would that not go hand in hand with several throws being off target? I heard Baline Bishop say yesterday on 3HL that he only saw two bad throws by Locker...can anyone on here honestly say they know more about the game than Blaine? Jake was far from perfect, but he made a lot of good plays. Walker looked out of sync in the passing game, and Williams and Washington both fell down on passes that would have been first downs. Not that it has anything to do with Locker...but I saw a few VY type passes from Schaub last night...the kind where I thought who the hell was he throwing to. begooode
Confirm or deny: Tim Tebow could have won this game at Quarterback? I don't think Tebow would have converted the third downs in the 2nd half. Pragidealist, IsntLifeFunny, and Jamalisms
Omar
A young QB in only his 13th pro start, against a very good defense, one of the best DC in NFL history who is known to make elite QBs look bad and force turnovers, one of the toughest places to play, first game of the season, new offensive scheme...some will say these are excuses, but can anyone dispute these are all facts? Pragidealist
Confirm or deny: Tim Tebow could have won this game at Quarterback? No. He doesn't convert those third and 10+ and he doesnt convert the scramble and throw to walker that went back across his run.
Pragidealist
Tebow also has at least one turnover - resulting in short field position.
