Jamalisms
There have been some good picks and some epic flops. Which guys sit atop respective lists according to Jim Reineking at NFL.com? The NFL Draft is approaching and Titans fans are getting excited about the potential of new breakout players. After a 6-10 year, and a decade removed the last playoff victory, draft time represents the dream of future glory and there are plenty of players to get excited about. For discussion on the upcoming draft see the Two Tone Crew podcast's preview series, (part 1 and part 2 ). The new regime has managed two drafts in a row which yielded decents fruits for the franchise and there's every expectation for success again in 2013, but what about prior years? Jim Reineking of NFL.com put together a list of the top 5 best and worst draft picks in franchise history. As this covers the Oilers and Titans, it makes for a lot of history to choose from. Familiar faces abound in the "best" section. Luv Ya Blue heros and Titans favorites make appearances, as do some people still associated with the team. Three of the "best" picks are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The other two may never make it. Interestingly, there are zero Oilers on the "worst" list. All are former Titans players. All were drafted since 2003... and yet one obvious player did not make the list. Arguments can and will be made either way on the excluded player, but what do you think about an all-Titans "worst" list? Do any former Oilers picks merit consideration? How did Reineking do overall? How would you order the players he picked? Who else is missing from both lists? Propose your own top 5 best and worst ever. notsolegato
Jeff's finger prints all over that worst of list. Geez. Also one pretty damn notable ommision, too.
Cornrow Wallace
I'd hesitate to call Calico a bad pick. He was looking quite promising until he got Roy Williams'd.
Guest
horrible representation. The good picks aren't so bad but we had so many worse picks than those guys on the bad list it's ridiculous.
NewsToTom
Did it ever occur to them to look later in the draft, like after the top half of the first round, to find good picks? Plus, the list of bad picks isn't a great list of bad picks even if you limit it to the past 10 drafts (Woolfolk, R.Gardner, C.Henry, P.Williams, R.Curran would be my five). freakingeek
kyle021
Where is VY? Where is Joey Kent? Why is Cortland Finnegan not on that list? What about Keith Bulluck?
Starkiller
Joey Kent was much worse than Calico Edited April 16, 2013 by Starkiller
Jamalisms
So who makes your lists, then.... @NewsToTom @ @CanadianTitansFan?
notsolegato
Just speaking from experience I kind of hate doing these sorts of articles that touch on all 32 teams individually. The 31 other fan bases will look at this article as pretty decent but each team's fans will all probably look at their own and think it's awful. It's just hard to do 32 separate articles that evaluate the hundreds of picks each team has made.
Melvin Bucktussel
How is Alonzo Highsmith not on this list?
reo
Calico had stone hands before his knees were wrecked.
IowaOiler
Imagine reading the Titans list as a Rams fan....lol.
charleytolar
This is a painful exercise. I looked back at all the Oiler/Titan drafts back through the 80s. Surprise #1-- hard to find many of our third round picks who were worth a damn. I've got only two who were noteworthy (Bubba McDowell and Johnny Meads) out of roughtly 32 selection. No-surprise #2-- we drafted Mike Munchak (1982-RD1-8th), Bruce Matthews (1983-RD1-9th), Harvey Salem (1983-RD2-8th) and Dean Steinkuhler (1984-RD1-2nd).... I'll add my Best Worst later. Gotta go. I concur with this, which is why I suggest things like limiting it to the past 10 years, in which case my top five would be Roos, Stewart, FInnegan, CJ, and McCourty, though my opinion might change in five years when some of the younger players have more experience.
