I didn't love Tate to begin with. Running an average 40 doesn't make him a bad WR but it does help solidify the opinion I already held. I haven't seen anything to make me believe this guy is worthy of

I like Tate. I like that he is one of the top 3-4 advanced stat performers. Good size and the 40 doesn't matter to me either.    That said, to be a #4 pick with his lack of high end production

At the NFL level, I don’t know how well he’ll separate and neither do you. When fans say things like watch the tape, as if they are trained NFL scouts, I roll my eyes. Worse, some of you dudes actuall

Handheld times would be closer to how Prodays are measured and that works out worse for Tate. 4,45/4.46 it a proday translates to 4.55/4.56 at the combine. +0.1 is the standard add-on.

4.53 is perfectly solid.  But considering how well WRs have been performing in the 40 in recent years (4.4s were rare in some classes before), I'm not sure why a top prospect would run unless they were absolutely certain they'd run a 4.4.

JSN posted a 4.48 at his Pro Day.

That's overblown. The best receivers outside of Chase and Nabers have run times similar or slower than Tate.

You think receivers are faster because the only players who compare at the 40 in the Combine are those who know they will do well. Everyone else opts out

What's your thought on his ability to gain separation. How much does a 4.52 or a 4.45 influence your opinion there?

None of the Top 5 leaders in receiving yardage last year ran a 40.  Neither did Nabors, Harrison, Jr., McMillan, nor the top guys in this year's draft.  So it's hard to make a correlation between timed speed and separation since receivers are opting out now.  But Davante Adams ran a 4.56 and he separated more than any other WR in his prime.

I don't think the 40 changed any minds about him, but I also think he is way over hyped and wouldn't be considered a 1st round prospect if he played for any other school.

Teams use their own times, not the tv times

As far as the TV times go, it’s completely irrelevant for teams in their process

We need more clarification on this.

They have a special timer guy that is there to specifically time with the laser and his system is even used at some pro days. That guy is what he finally tv time is supposed to be and they do the adjustments, they go back to first movement to add or subtract time.

He did an interview the other day and said something like "some scouts will have their own times based on which frames they determine as starting motion. And some like to time them themselves"

if we are talking about picking out frames of when to start the timer... that's likely in the .01 adjustments.

The guy admitted that they will pick the dream of film when the timing starts... so how is that starting with a hand timer like is reported. I'm guessing g the unofficial is hand time started and the official is movement on camera frame.

if we are talking about guys with their own times completely, we are talking about hand time and that's the .05+ difference.

To me the reports are clearly shelter helping Tates  agent by reporting fully hand timed old school scouts - which look better.

That said, to be a #4 pick with his lack of high end production and YAC and not even being g the #1 on his team makes me not want to take him anywhere close to 4.

Theres just too many talented guys ahead of him. Reese Bailey Bain all look like they will be probowlers at a premium position, Styles Downs Love all look like they will be AllPros at less vital positions.

Unless we trade back, there's just too many seemingly better options.

I feel like people are using these reasons just to gaslight at this point. He is not a slot receiver catching crossers and underneath shit that he turns up field. He is a downfield threat. He's not going to be a YAC guy when most of his big plays are made up of air yards.

And for the millionth time his not being the #1 on his team is not a knock on him, it's a testament to how great their depth charts have been for the last half decade.

Nah. Just whatever you think has been disproven about this, others don't agree with. I think he's a great overall prospect whose most outstanding trait is winning contested catches but no other true outstanding traits. I can get that his QB maybe shorted some balls and I can recognize the types of routes he runs too.

...but I can also understand that he is bigger than 95% (this number will shrink in the pros) of these DBs and should still be making more individual plays after the catch than he has been.

He isnt shedding off tackles or staying on his feet like I would want from a top 5 WR ... especially not enough to warrant taking over 6 other guys that are better overall players and /or as good but at a higher quality postition.

The clarification is when they build the athletic profile of the player, teams use their own hand times and not the tv copy.

Whatever way they consolidate that is consistent across the offseason (pro days workouts etc)

Schefter reporting is likely accurate as there has long been scepticism on the hand timing of the jump off on laser timing
