One thing worth noting about Saleh (albeit a minor point) is that he didn’t call plays while he was the Jets’ head coach, and he has said that in his next HC job he’d like to call plays on defense. He’s already been a head coach, so he understands what the role entails, but this would add another responsibility to his plate and one he doesn’t have experience balancing alongside head coaching duties.

 

It obviously wouldn’t be the same situation as Callahan being a first-time HC while also calling plays, but it’s still something to consider with Saleh in terms of how much he’d be able to focus on in-game management and overall strategy, especially since he’s never done both at the same time. There may be a small adjustment period there.

At the end of the day nobody knows how these coaches will translate to a NFL HC.

 

You can have a 30 year old passing coordinator with a QB like Tom Brady and everyone thinks he's God and should be the next HC of a team.  

 

All this talk is media driven. Nobody is watching a Rams game and thinking anything about their passing game coordinator,  yet he's interviewing for HC gigs. 

 

Also, if I'm watching a Rams game,  there's no way I'm saying to myself "I want whoever is coaching the Rams defense as my next HC".

These guys make millions and could care less what some dude is saying to motivate them to play harder. McDaniel is someone you can actually learn X and Os from.
