Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

True, but ...

(can't find the spoiler tags... so will jump to the other thread)

Just put "spoiler" in brackets at the start and "/spoiler" at the end... at least I think that worked earlier. Couldn't tell om my browser at work

But you're right. Prob best to switch.

^ this times a 1000. It's also clear that GRRM is not happy about D&D referencing that something they wrote into the show is yet to happen in the books. Obviously everyone understands the show has surpassed the books from a timeline perspective but that doesn't mean the writers should be so cavalier about confirming details such as Shireen burning.

I'm not sure that's clear, but that's beside the point.  How was it "cavalier" and how would you suggest the series handle something that may or may not be written at a future time in the books?

Easy. Don't say shit like GRRM told us this would happen in a post episode interview when said event hasn't happened yet in the books. Leave it open for speculation.

Exactly. It was a blame shift and a dick move.

Okay, I can respect that as a person that has made efforts to elude spoilers.  I didn't perceive this as being the argument made.

Maybe it was just some guys getting excited to talk about a pivotal scene? I wouldn't read too much into intentions here, especially since it's very possible they are telling the truth.

A dick move?  Come on.

If Martin wants to keep his books from being spoiled he should sit his fat ass down and write.  In my mind whatever the show guys do they are heroes because they have gotten Martin's ass in gear and writing.  Combine Martin's writing pace with the 100s of pages he wasted on bullshit in the last couple of books (Tyrion's boat ride :shudder:), and before the show started catching up, I think it was a coin flip as to whether Martin would have ever wrapped up the series.  The writers are moving ahead and tightening up plot lines, both of which I have a feeling are having a beneficial effect on Martin.

We are coming up on 20 fucking years since the first book was published in this series.  Martin needed a kick in the ass.

Which is irrelevant when discussing the fact that they intentionally acknowledged future book events to avoid outrage instead of leaving it to us to wonder. And there is no doubt that was their goal. They've been slaughtered this year, this was an attempt at a reprieve.

Except this isn't a fact. You are reading a lot into their intentions.

Amen to this.  I read to all the books.  Tyrion and Penny.  I am so glad that was not included.  I love that the series has left the books because it make it more interesting.  I can watch and be surprised like when Ned got it.  When I read the book, I'm thinking "what??"  Then the next thing you know, anybody could get it.  But to not finish the books??  What's the point in that?  King finished the Gunslinger series for his audience.  People were begging for an end.  Martin could get  another author to help if he can't do it.
