Starkiller
I did like how they used Benjin's name to lure out Jon. I was wondering why they had him in the intro so prominently. I figured it out quickly, but it was well done in place of how they stabbed him in the books. Edited June 15, 2015 by Starkiller
Rogue
Could they have kept Stannis' storyline going through next year (I'm assuming Brienne killed him but he was dying anyway)? Sure. But they probably just accelerated his storyline to end this season as they pushed up the battle at Hardhome and Tyrion making it to Mereen from book 6. And they don't need to keep the actor around this way. I've kind of figured Stannis' failure early on. However, assuming that failure lead me to believe there was no further storyline with him, at least not one presented. Another failure would insure he had no chance at an army again. So what further arc could he have? Unless some weird shit, I figure he's done.
CMJ
I'm pretty sure Stannis is alive. Every major character killed has been seen by the audience as killed. Not some gay cut away.
Starkiller
Everything about the Sand Snakes is still really, really terrible TV. Including that line. And speaking of Dorne - Jaime doesn't turn that ship around? Really? Come on. They had better not have him just keep sailing. Maybe the only point of Dorne was to kill Myrcella. But they could have done that entirely off screen.

It's possible, but maybe they just didn't want to spend money on special effects for the beheading.

It's extremely unlikely Stannis was killed here. And if it did happen, it was still just to create a plot effect.

If Syrio Forel was still alive, I think that Meryn Trant would have told Arya before she killed him. So he's dead. She left Sandor bleeding to death and refused to put him out of his misery. So he's dead too. Syrio, Sandor, and Stannis are all dead. Face it.

Even if Brienne didn't kill him, he was mortally wounded in battle. Stannis was already bleeding badly where the Bolton soldier cut him on the leg. Perhaps it was a call back to season 2 when Yoren threatened to nick that gold cloak's artery. But there's no way that Stannis is still alive. Now that Melisandre is at Castle Black, she can save Jon's live with her powers, but not Stannis'. I like Myrcella's chances of survival more than Stannis'. I promise you Stannis didn't die in that scene.
OILERMAN
There is no doubt Stannis is dead.... His daughter was burned alive, his wife killed herself and his army deserted him or was wiped out. There is no reason to keep him alive. Besides that Brienne was never going to not kill him. When Melisandre saw that one dead guy brought back to life she was pretty shocked but she'll do it. Legaltitan, and Oiler FANatic

So Brienne will put all her prejudices aside and nurse Stannis back to health? If she leaves him there, he will die just like when Arya left Sandor to die. Your love of Stannis is touching, but entirely ridiculous. He could barely walk when Brienne found him, he's dead even if she doesn't kill him. Face it! He could barely walk when Brienne found him, he's dead even if she doesn't kill him. Face it! There's a million ways they could have played this scene. Brienne gets cut down by something midscene--maybe a shadow demon, maybe a loyal Stannis-ite. Game of Thrones is not a show to be ambiguous for no reason. If they wanted you to know he was 100% dead you would have seen it.

His wife and daughter are dead because of him and his army has been defeated and destroyed twice. The only reason to keep him around would be for him to either kill Melisandre for completely ruining his life, or to have Ser Davos kill him for murdering Shireen. OILERMAN
How close is the show to being caught up to the books?
OILERMAN
I went back and watched the Stannis scene. She draws her sword, swings it and let out a grunt and the camera cuts away after it shows the sword coming down on Stannis. It would be pretty hard to make it where she stops her swing or someone/something saved him at the last mili-second. Oiler FANatic
