Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

I have a feeling they're going to keep Jon dead for the better part of this season, if not essentially the whole thing... with a resurrection coming in episode 9 since they like big stuff in that episode.

Glad

Euron

is making an appearance.

I doubt they will keep Jon dead nearly that long.

There were some kind of spoilery bits from the books in the trailer. I mean, non-book readers would have no clue what the Tower of Joy or the kingsmoot are so I don't need to hide them, but book readers know what they are (just don't comment about them here).

I imagine they'll use the ToJ stuff to set up Jon's resurrection.  So I'm saying episode 3 or 4.

Been rewatching the show from the beginning. Just a few episodes into season five now. Seasons one through four are great. Remarkable how they hit on nearly everything. Sandor is definitely my favorite character. That fight scene between him and Brienne is the best, imo.

Not looking forward to rewatching season five, where nearly every decision went wrong (not coincidentally, imo, at the same time they went away from source material). I saw recently that they were bragging about how they spent $10 million per episode in season six and it's their favorite season. Almost aprehensive that it's more like season five than the first four.

Can't get here soon enough.

This is the first season I'm not super excited for it to begin.  I know the convention was don't get attached to characters. But with the way Jon Snow was handled has been confusing, being he's dead.  I've not had a problem with other "hero's" deaths.  It worked within the story.  But Snow's death is a story arc that appears to be more for shock value than actual significance.  I would even say the story of Jon Snow ending in death is one of the most anti-climatic story arcs of all time.  This is problematic from a viewers perspective.  And thus a problem.

Sure, real world events do not end as if we wish, but the whole purpose of fiction is to play with idealism.

The bottom line is it seems Jon Snow's death appears more for shock value than actual story telling.  I do think the shock value has been part of fun of the show, but at the point they put so much effort into a seemingly central part of the story and it's nothing....story telling has reached something beyond interest.
