This is the first season I'm not super excited for it to begin.  I know the convention was don't get attached to characters. But with the way Jon Snow was handled has been confusing, being he's dead.  I've not had a problem with other "hero's" deaths.  It worked within the story.  But Snow's death is a story arc that appears to be more for shock value than actual significance.  I would even say the story of Jon Snow ending in death is one of the most anti-climatic story arcs of all time.  This is problematic from a viewers perspective.  And thus a problem.

Sure, real world events do not end as if we wish, but the whole purpose of fiction is to play with idealism.

The bottom line is it seems Jon Snow's death appears more for shock value than actual story telling.  I do think the shock value has been part of fun of the show, but at the point they put so much effort into a seemingly central part of the story and it's nothing....story telling has reached something beyond interest.

I don't think you can blame this on the show as GM also killed off Snow in the books and hasn't returned to the story arc although it's widely considered gospel that Snow has a huge part to play in the rest of the series. As for HBO, the show creators got off script and they like it that way. The first 4 seasons were great. Last year was weak. I don't have any confidence season 6 won't be a continuation of season 5 in quality.

Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

lol.  I vaguely remember typing that.  Smirnoff blue.  I don't follow the books so I have no reference.  I didn't mind last season.  JS was the one guy who's arc seemed important to the story as a whole.  I mean hell, it was just a few episodes earlier he watched the white walkers resurrect the dead after an epic battle...in a face off fashion.

All involved are adamant he's dead.  Maybe something happens and he comes back or in some way still contributes, but everyone really suggest he's toast.

The show, GM, whoever, they created a story arc of importance that had no significance.

I hope they can bring some significance to it, but I don't have a great deal of faith.
