titanruss
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/fire.70020 Study/Discussion on reddit. There's people around here that believe in zero league or media bias for or against other teams. This is just more evidence clearly showing that is some ignorant idealistic bullshit. When there's money to be made or alliances and good-ole-boy systems to uphold.. shit gets corrupted. "Specifically, defensive penalties against the Mahomes-era Chiefs offense yield 2.36 more yards (p < 0.05), are 23 percentage points more likely to result in a first down (p < 0.01), and are 28 percentage points more likely to be a subjective penalty call (p < 0.01) compared to the rest of the NFL in the playoffs." (i actually havent read the paper and have no real true opinion here but its an interesting discussion) Edited September 5, 2025 by titanruss Jamalisms, SuperFreak90, SleepingTitan, and 1 other 1 1

SleepingTitan
I've talked about my theory for a long time here and received a lot of ridicule. I don't believe it's mere favoritism of the refs because they "like" a player. I believe the NFL runs analytics on the financial favorability of outcomes. Each game has a rating and outcome toward that financial favorability. The officials are given directives to favor 1 side over the other, or in certain cases, 50/50 neutral based on the outcomes being equal financially. When they officiate the game, they're trying to be as fair as possible, but they have that directive in the back of their minds. They don't intentionally fix the game, but any 50/50 call where they could decide not to throw a flag, they will if it helps the team they want to win. Owners know this. All officials know this. They all sign NDAs. That's why they pick lawyers and successful people to be refs. Ain't nobody throwing their lives away just to "out" the NFL. The league is not in the business of games. They run an entertainment org no different than WWE. *I also believe that teams who build new stadiums temporarily get their status elevated as a reward for building the stadium. That's how teams who build stadiums miraculously get to the SB quickly. It's also how teams like the Saints find themselves playing in SBs after a major hurricane. The story brings fans. 2010 SB had almost 107M viewers, a record at the time. Recent teams to build stadiums and get to a SB: Rams (won the SB as hosts), Falcons. Don't forget Brady won a SB in the Bucs actual stadium. WHAT A STORY! TheBisco
SleepingTitan
If Cam Ward is electric and wildly popular, the Titans will start getting these calls and make it to a SB within 3 years of 2027 (stadium opens). When Ward vs Mahomes happens, we might see a fair game called. If the announcers do their job, they'll find the story about how they were essentially discovered by the same guy (Eric Morris). The future looks bright bois!
FRT
Nah, NFL and media already have their favorite small market team. Would take decades of Cam Wards to uproot GB.
