Kamala tried to tell everyone that Trump was lying about who would end up paying for the tariffs.  Hint....it wasn't other countries.

Saw that last night. Cutting SNAP and USAID while doing massive tarrifs that create retaliation was guaranteed to ruin them. We are at a point where our literal food supply chain is wavering, which is crazy. Excellent work, Republicans. Also, the cuts to their own healthcare is pretty hilarious actually. They voted to close their own hospitals. The self-own is staggering. 

 

Same I spoke about awhile back with that study in Appalachia. First time in 4 generations any president since FDR had reached out to them directly with federal funds to bring up their quality of life. And they spit on it and voted 4 to 1 to have those funds immediately cut.

It isn't one of. They're our closest allies and biggest trade partner. Likely in the history of the world there's never been as successful an operation with the free trading of goods across a border as what we've enjoyed with Canada. And they've wrecked it. Canadians aren't just pissed in the short term. They're actively working to decouple from the US. The Ontario Premier, Ford, said it well that Canada doesn't want to be "a subsidiary of the US". The funny part is they were and have been, but it also helped them out. They just didn't want to be spit on and treated like an enemy in the process.

Trump said yesterday that Canada has been ripping us off for years. Guess who negotiated the last trade deal with them and abandoned NAFTA?

Assuming Trump is gone in 2029 and we return back to a normal presidency then Canada will be right back along with us. They won’t forget what happened, but they know that what’s happening now is just about Trump and not America as a whole.

I don't think so. It doesn't mean they won't trade with us and relations won't normalize, but they're decoupling as fast as they can and won't turn back.

The trade deals they strike in the meantime will be a factor for them going forward.

We have a long and extremely positive history with Canada that lasts 2+ centuries (those early years were a little rough, admittedly). It’s not going to just go away, assuming American fascism is an aberration and not the new normal. Canada will be very welcoming to America when Trump is gone. 
 

Also, they can’t just move their country. Location, location, location.

I don’t think that’s true. If America goes back to normal in a few years I fully expert our relationship with Canada to go back to normal as well. Our ties are incredibly deep. And the next Democratic president will certainly make that a priority. 
 

What won’t go back to normal is our relationships with most of our non-neighboring countries. Even our NATO allies won’t go back to fully relying on us the way they used to. And countries in the Middle East probably won’t either (though that may be mutual).

Yes, relations will normalize. Their dependence on our markets and all of the preferential treatment will not.
