I think there are obviously really good LTs that hit free agency but most are probably older vets that are too expensive for their teams. Just like there are a crap ton of serviceable guys who are likely way overpaid for just being average. If you can get a 2 contract LT in the draft (10 full years of LT play where you aren’t trying to find his upgrade), even with having to pay that 2nd contract it obviously means he is worth it and an absolute grand slam of a draft pick to any GM If you don’t sign him to a 2nd contract for anything less than you mismanaged the cap and can’t afford how good he is, then obviously I agree that it’s a disappointing pick I can agree w/ that. But I'd just add that average or just solid LTs don't make it to that 2nd contract. They're too expensive and end up getting replaced. But that's admittedly an assumption. Justafan
Fun discussion as the top of the draft is kind of boring since there really are only about 4 guys realistically in play for the Titans (none of them named Bowers). The real fun for the Titans IMO, is the discussion revolving around 38. reo, IsntLifeFunny, rns90, and 1 other

rns90
Another aspect that hasn’t been talked about is where are these targets coming from if they take a TE at 7. Hopkins you figure will get close to 100. They will sign a FA WR who will get some (maybe 50-70), they will draft another guy who’ll get around the same /more. Add in Chig and Burks and there’s not really that much opportunities for another TE.

Or draft best available defender. I tend to lean toward trading down or up. Justafan

I still like the ALT at #7 and AD Mitchell at #38, but there are about 30 scenarios I can think of that would probably bring some excitement about the future. There are many great options at 38, but it is impossible to predict without knowing what they do in FA and at #7. But yeah, FA and what they do (or don’t do) will tell us a lot. There are many ways to go about it. Like the C spot, they could either pay for one of the younger C or sign a vet to hold down the fort for a couple of years while drafting a guy in the mid rounds to develop. About the only thing we can all agree is that they will spend on defense particularly the secondary. IsntLifeFunny

Then you're looking at a Mims, Guyton, or a Paul at #38. Either way they go, I want a quality WR and a quality LT that can be developed from those two premium picks they have unless they do something crazy in FA that changes that perspective. rns90, and IsntLifeFunny

I’ve come around to this option as well. If they think the WR is rated higher than the best available LT then yeah go WR in 1 and trade up from 38 to get your LT. I think LT in 1 and WR in second is an easier path. But it doesn’t diminish the other option and plus Carthon has proven he can trade up and give up currency if he really wants and covets a player. Yea, I like @AussieTitanFan08's strategy to take Nabers at #7 and then give up some capital from next year's draft to move back into the first and take one of the tackles. If they draft Bowers he's going to take the targets from one of the WRs otherwise why draft him that high? This is the point I made last week. Of the cincy offense is any indicator the WRs and RBs will be around 425 targets combined. That leaves 75 or so for the entire TE group.
