BRUSSELS (AP) — With a journalist or media worker killed every day on average in the Israel-Hamas war, the head of the global organization representing the profession said Monday that it has become a conflict beyond compare.

About 60 have been killed since the Oct. 7 start of the war, already close to the same number of journalists killed during the entire Vietnam War half a century ago. Other brutal wars in the Middle East have not come close to the intensity of the current one.

Hell yeah! John Calvin & friends never burned "heretics" at the stake. Protestants never burned "witches". All the bad stuff was the Catholics fault! That's the ticket!

There's simply no defense for what has taken place. This wasn't a military encounter; this was terrorism plain and simple. There's a huge difference. It's unjustifiable and has setback peace for decad

The 6 billion was Iranian money from prior oil sales and held in South Korea.   In addition, it wasn't turned over directly to Iran.  The money is to be used for humanitarian purposes and pa

Whatever you think of Assange, it wasn't him that did the shady shit like Israel allowing Hamas to thrive so they could treat Gaza as hostile!

You seem quite emotional when it comes to this topic.

How was that an emotional post? It's relevant to the discussion that Israel haven't exactly been fully transparent in their efforts to stop Hamas

For what it's worth, I don't think you're emotional, even if I disagree with you on Israel.  I think you're passionate about what you believe, and that's different, respectable even. Reo likes to think of himself as above the fray. Really, it's just his own hubris that won't allow him to see other points of view. We're human, and we have values and beliefs and things we're willing to tolerate and things we will stand against the wind and defy even at the greatest of personal costs.

It's our greatest strength as a species, not a weakness.

I appreciate that, early in the thread I probably was emotional but I think I've toned that back a lot now. As you said we're human, it's easy to be emotional when a terrorist attack as brutal as that happens and then a ton of civilians die on our screens

Exactly. Same here. I spent years of my life over there fighting terrorists. Friends of mine died. I sacrificed a great deal personally that I won't get into.

It would be impossible for me not to have biases or emotions attached to that.

You've got a pretty consistent borderline angry tone throughout your posts in this thread.

You've toned it back. But I'd hazard to guess the topic still tends to get you stirred up which probably means you're more susceptible to believing false narratives.

Which is understandable... but you have to understand that this potentially impairs your logical reasoning and makes you more willing to believe things that aren't true or it allows something to be "proven" true to you w/ less evidence. Understanding that about yourself on these topics is important.

What is false about that wikileak or the fact that they ignored multiple warnings about Oct 7?

We can speculate on the reasons for those things but they happened

I'm not mad on the topic anymore and haven't posted most of the things I've seen on the war because they were too biased

Personally I think it could be true. I don't trust Netanyahu but I'm not going to say confidently that my speculation is true or talk like it's true b/c I don't know.

Not posting some of the more biased sources is noted. And honestly hopefully it does still piss you off to a degree. The point is to acknowledge that the anger can make it easier for people to convince you that something is true w/ less evidence. Knowing that is important. You are susceptible to propaganda and misinformation on this topic. It's important to realize that about yourself when you're vulnerable and if this makes you angry, you are vulnerable.
