Covid to an extent, but F&F series, and Discovery's Outlaw Racing shows have done a lot to glorify street racing as something acceptable along with running from the cops when something bad happens. I didn't drive if I had been drinking, and it is unclear if Carter did. Carter didn't wreck into someone. The staffer wrecked her car and killed herself and her passenger.
