Bail is based on the crime, it only gets increased if there are extenuating circumstances. The point of bail is to insure the individual won't flee. Edit: Just saw he was doing at least 156 and the airbags deployed at ~125... killed the dog too.. there was a gun in the car and he was .16 bac. Definitely doesnt help lol... but I'm too cynical in these cases and seen too many cases of guys released all the time too early. The bail being 15% of what it could be for a guy with enough money to be a flight risk seems like an early indicator of preferential treatment... but I'm no lawyer. It's never wise to hang your hat on them...unless they are named Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice and Tim Brown are the models of WR character (and Marcus Allen, a great running back). What the hell is wrong with these guys who just can't get it that their low class behavior must end... guys like Aron Hernandez didn't get it, nor did Ruggs (it would seem). Christ, they get a multi-million dollar signing bonus and the road to fame and fortune and they go out get wasted at a club, carry a loaded gun in their vehicle, and floor it to 150mph (or more) at 3:30AM, still wasted. WTF? Didn't he learn anything at Alabama? He had a life story that sounded so compelling, I was rooting for him as a person (let alone a WR with huge potential).
