Iran: Nuclear Incident

Vice President JD Vance said marathon talks with Iran did not result in an agreement to permanently end the war.

“We have been at it now for 21 hours, and we’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That’s the good news,” Vance said at a press appearance in Islamabad.

“The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement,” he said. “And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America. So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement.”

ANNUAL THREAT ASSESSMENT OF THE U.S. INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY

March 2025

page 26:

We continue to assess Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and that Khamenei has not reauthorized the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003, though pressure has probably built on him to do so.

Iran did not rebuild its uranium enrichment capability following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against its nuclear program last year, U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard told a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Wednesday.

"As a result of Operation Midnight Hammer, Iran’s nuclear enrichment program was obliterated. There has been no efforts since then to try to rebuild their enrichment capability. The entrances to the underground facilities that were bombed have been buried and shuttered with cement," Gabard wrote in an opening statement ahead of the hearing.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — President Donald Trump on Sunday said the U.S. Navy would “immediately” begin a blockade to stop ships from entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz, after U.S.-Iran peace talks in Pakistan ended without an agreement.

Trump sought to exert strategic control over the waterway responsible for the transportation of 20% of global oil supplies before the war, hoping to take away Iran’s key source of economic leverage in the fighting.

The president added that he has “instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.”

Even less oil will be available for the world's supply.  Interesting to see how China, India and a few others react to this.  And btw, interdicting ships in international waters is regarded as an act of war.

This is likely a market manipulation move for Monday morning.

I don't believe he'll actually do any of this

Also interesting to see how the US navy responds.  He's essentially ordering them to commit an act of war.

The USA is mighty because of capital and military hardware.  It has no corner on foreign affairs strategy etc. And right now it is not on par with other nations, it is behind them in strategy because the Administration is full of imbeciles. The secretary of state and the treasury secretary are the only cabinet members with normal credentials and neither is overly impressive; the rest have no qualifications and they are Trump zealots versus intelligent and competent people.

My point: China, Russia and Iran can easily take advantage of this stupid policy that is not thought out.

Unless they invade Kharg this does next to nothing to hurt the Iranian Regime. It hurts our allies, China, and India. Iran has pipelines around the Strait so it isn't stopping their shipping. Higher prices help them and Russia.

We are so far down the rabbit hole I can't tell if this is just Trump's dementia flaring or the follow through on the resource war. Either situation results in the US spending a ton of money and our gas prices going up, likely in perpetuity as the world turns against us. This is turning into our Suez Canal event.
