God's honest truth -- I worked retail back in the day and at our store we had a Mike Hunt.  In fact, most of us didn't know his real name.  He went by T.C. And no, the cashier stopped before saying his real name over the PA when he was called for something.  The whole thing went right over my head until she broke it down for me.

Yeah, it’s weird to me people still haven’t realized the game.  It’s not the candidate, it’s the outrage.  Sure some Trump supporters would be disappointed, but they’d vote DeSantis without pause.  
 

Once voting season comes, they’ll be outraged enough to vote anyone not D.  Period.  It’s obvious.

To be fair, an overwhelming majority vote for the D or R no matter what name behind them.  Amazing how often people will without a single hesitation vote their letter when literally not a single clue whom they are voting for, on both sides of the aisle. And has only gotten worse over the years.  And that's talking about the people who actually bother to vote. (under since before I racked up a 1 on the age chart for midterms)

 

I recall the conversation with my Mom who was worried about Romney winning instead of Obama.  Told her Don't Worry - the sun will still come up tomorrow.

 

Too many people have gotten to the point where they sincerely believe it won't, and that is the underlying issue.  That the world cannot survive without their views elected into place.  Which in turn of course horse blinders them into a single file of a feed trough of information.  

 

Despite it all, you all will still mostly be you, your friends and family them, and what happens less about what happens in the 1st Tuesday every 4th November than the choices you make in life (that really probably aren't your own free will to begin with:

The problem is now existential to the idea of democracy and essentially human rights. The abortion laws are next level, with SC saying they will make it murder 1. It isn't just some cultural bullshit now. They're going after rights while simultaneously denouncing the idea of free elections. 

 

I agree with you about the underlying issue, but it's now sprouted and essentially radicalized a huge swath of Republicans, which in turn has done something similar to a much smaller minority of Democrats. It isn't the same playing field anymore. Over 50% of the country polled by pew thinks we are headed towards a Civil War.

It would be nice to believe that it doesn’t make a huge difference which party is running the country, but the fact is that hasn’t been true for a while now. maybe on a day-to-day basis there’s no huge difference, but that’s not what I mean. 

 

I mean, people would have died from Covid regardless but do you not think things would have gone better with someone competent like Hillary as president? Do you think the banking system would have been stabilized if Trump and anti-regulation Republicans were in charge now instead of Biden when SVB crashed? Would Roe have been overturned had Hillary won? And elections being managed by MAGA republicans?
 

There’s a very good reason for people to vote R or D regardless of the candidate. The ideological differences are huge. Often it’s illogical why people vote the way they do, but it’s no longer true that things will more or less be the same regardless of who wins.
