GOP thread

Another case where Trump and his lawyers pushing the big lie were never interested in the truth of their exhausted and debunked claims, but were only focused on the continued repetition of easy to digest, manipulative bullshit to animate their fraudulent message to the American electorate. I'm glad the lawyers for the Atlanta election workers are not letting up on Giuliani one bit.

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4092690-georgia-election-workers-urge-sanctions-on-giuliani-for-failing-to-turn-over-evidence/

Georgia election workers suing Rudy Giuliani for defamation are claiming in new court filings that the former Trump lawyer failed to turn over evidence despite “repeated reminders” from the court.

Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who were Fulton County poll workers in the 2020 election, say that Guiliani has not taken “any steps, let alone reasonable steps,” to preserve electronic evidence in the case. Because of that, they’re asking U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell, who is overseeing the case, to impose “severe” sanctions on Giuliani.

One such example of evidence not turned over is a Dec. 7, 2020 email thread where then-Trump advisor Boris Epshteyn sent an “urgent POTUS request” to a group of allies asking for examples of purported election fraud.

“Need best examples of ‘election fraud’ that we’ve alleged that’s super easy to explain,” Epshteyn writes. “Doesn’t necessarily have to be proven, but does need to be easy to understand.” Giuliani in reply claimed that a security camera in Atlanta — which showed Freeman and Moss moving ballots — captured “theft of a minimum of 30,000 votes, which alone would change result (sic) in Georgia,” the filings say.

Another piece of evidence the Georgia election workers say is missing is a Dec. 13, 2020 email from Giuliani to Epshteyn approving a draft statement from Trump’s legal team again claiming that video evidence showed “30,000 illegal ballots cast after the observers were removed.” That email was released by the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, the election workers say.

Anybody else see that MTG is trying to submit a bill to make the USA leave NATO? ... just like exactly the day after Sweden gets in and Turkey is like "please we will do anything to join the EU too!"

It's like Putin is just crying like a bitch right before our very eyes.

Biden is absolutely kicking the shit out of Russia and it's costing the USA almost nothing. It's amazing really.

Yep. Yet if a Republican like DeSantis or Trump wins it will likely be all for naught. They will clip the Ukraine quickly. Trump has already openly said he would force Ukraine into a settlement, which is the best Russia can ask for at this point.

We've got 16 months. The only worry for me is if republicans find a way to destroy the economy before then or off Biden.

The USSC being fucktards is empowering the young voters.

The economy is improving. Prices are starting to come back down. This term should end on a high note.

The economy improving without Biden's appeal not improving spells trouble, imo.  It might lead to complacency with regards to just how dangerous another Trump presidency would be.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jul/12/clarence-thomas-aide-venmo-payments-lawyers-supreme-court?CMP=share_btn_tw

Several lawyers who have had business before the supreme court, including one who successfully argued to end race-conscious admissions at universities, paid money to a top aide to Justice Clarence Thomas, according to the aide’s Venmo transactions. The payments appear to have been made in connection to Thomas’s 2019 Christmas party.

The payments to Rajan Vasisht, who served as Thomas’s aide from July 2019 to July 2021, seem to underscore the close ties between Thomas, who is embroiled in ethics scandals following a series of revelations about his relationship with a wealthy billionaire donor, and certain senior Washington lawyers who argue cases and have other business in front of the justice.

Vasisht’s Venmo account – which was public prior to requesting comment for this article and is no longer – show that he received seven payments in November and December 2019 from lawyers who previously served as Thomas legal clerks. The amount of the payments is not disclosed, but the purpose of each payment is listed as either “Christmas party”, “Thomas Christmas Party”, “CT Christmas Party” or “CT Xmas party”, in an apparent reference to the justice’s initials.

However, it remains unclear what the funds were for.

It is not an exaggeration to say if Trump or DeSantis were the current President, Ukraine would no longer exist as a sovereign nation. If either of them become President I think Ukraine can survive, but it would become a lot harder for them.

Phase 2 would have been securing the city of Odesa and then west to Moldova, Also, there's reporting that if Putin had been successful quickly in Ukraine that some sort of westward expansion to reunite Kaliningrad might have been in cards, too, implying a blinking contest with NATO (before Sweden and Finland joined). And you know Putin's social media farms would have had 35% of the US (75% of the repubs) arguing against action.

And then after that he'd have gone for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Then power hungry SOB having done all that and gotten away w/ it, would've definitely been eyeing Poland.

I'll try to listen omw home today.

It's an understated point on many levels. If Russia had od taken Ukraine at the start the idiots are acting like they would have stopped there.

Seems a little late, and perhaps they were expecting the Feds to lead on this, but Arizona is looking into 2020 fake Trump electors activities in their state.  Seems they need to check the digital trail of Kelli Ward  and that other maga crazy, Wendy Rogers

Arizona is ramping up a criminal probe into allegations of efforts to overturn the 2020 election by state Republicans, The Washington Post reported.

Citing two sources familiar with the probe, the Post reported Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) is stepping up her criminal probe into alleged attempts by Republicans to turn over the election results, in which they reportedly signed and transmitted paperwork falsely claiming former President Trump won the election in the state. The sources also said investigators were requesting information and records from local election officials, as well as evidence collected by the Justice Department and a prosecutor in Atlanta, who are looking into similar cases.

Dr. Kelli Ward, chair of the Arizona Republican Party, election denier, conspiracy spreader and fake Electoral College elector, was subpoenaed by the select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and sat for a deposition on March 16. The 68-page deposition has now been released.

In it, Ward states her name, solemnly swears “under the penalty of perjury” that the testimony she was about to give would be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing by the truth, and then, in response to the questions put forth to her by attorneys for the committee, proceeds to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 250 times.

I firmly believe federal charges should be brought against any public figure or government official or appointee who was directly involved with the fake electors scheme or who publicly promoted unfounded bullshit claims about election fraud and a stolen election.

These self-righteous pieces of shit did everything in their power to subvert and overturn  democratically-held federal and state elections.....while knowing all along that they had absolutely zero proof or evidence to support such allegations.

These people were in positions of authority that carry a certain level of power and influence.... and they made negligent and incredibly irresponsible decisions to use their influence to push wild and ridiculous allegations out to the public despite having no proof whatsoever and having done absolutely no investigations.

Their negligent actions and decisions caused tens or hundreds of millions American citizen to lose trust in the nation's democratic election process...which then led to the events of Jan 6th, which was the single biggest challenge to democracy this country has ever seen.

I have no doubt that these people were fully convinced they were in the right....their actions were the very definition of delusion and smug self-righteousness.   But  they were also fully aware that they had not a single shred of evidence to support such dangerous over-the-top allegations....but they made them anyway.

They should absolutely be held accountable for such reckless and irresponsible behavior.....but of course, Republican leadership would never stand for it.
