Biden White House: Year 4

tgo

Recommended Posts

"Biden is polling at a dismal 24 percent approval among Hispanics (with 54 percent disapproving). And while his numbers among African-Americans are still above water at 63 percent, his numbers have fallen almost 20 percentage points since last April.

This poll may constitute a new low, but it’s no flukey outlier. The trends are clear. NBC News recently compared polling from 2018 (a great midterm year for Dems) with its own 2022 polling—and college-educated women are the only cohort that has become bluer. (Conversely, NBC News found a “pronounced [Republican] shift among men of 20 points,” as Steve Kornacki noted.)

So why is this all happening, and what does it all mean? Let’s unpack this.

Upon winning office, Biden promptly ignored the “Biden coalition” that got him elected, and tried to become the second coming of LBJ. The disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan came on his watch, and that seems to have begun his polling decline. Similarly, Biden’s policies and rhetoric likely contributed to a range of problems, including inflation and the border crisis. And lastly, Biden’s inability to effectively lead or inspire as a public speaker makes it very hard for him to change the current trajectory."

nope. its inflation, nothing more. Too bad voters are too stupid to realize thats a global issue although the data does suggest the ARP ingested too much money into the economy in too short a period of time.

Trump is proof this no longer matters no? Biden sounds fine unless you are drinking the right-wing media kool-aid. He's not suffering from dementia nor is he anywhere near Feinstein levels of bad. He's simply not a great orator but he makes up for it by being compassionate. Anyone who thinks his speaking skills are why his polling numbers suck is delusional. It's the economy and covid fatigue period. No one gives a fuck about Afghanistan.

I will say even though the party in power usually loses the midterms, the dems have done a lot of this to themselves and it would be a huge mistake to simply put it on cyclical trends. They have to stop the identity politics bullshit and get back blue collar Americans. They thought they could replace that core voting bloc with small minority groups and young voters and they were wrong. They deserve what's coming as do the voters.

I think it's a combination of everything since Biden has been in office, its not just one thing, that would be stupid. There's literally nothing he can hang his hat during his presidency

It’s definitely inflation. No way around it either. The middle and lower-middle class can’t get conventional mortgages without pristine credit during a housing boom. Inflation is wiping out millennials and Gen Z from taking the next step into gaining wealth.

speaking of this since I'm actually looking at selling my current house and moving further out. here in VA the average mortgage rate on a loan under 500K on Monday was 6.5%; over 500K it was 4.7%. We really do fuck over the working and middle classes in all facets. its amazing.

It's crazy. It's impossible for low to mid income people to buy a house right now. I sure as hell wouldn't want to buy one right now anywhere.

In Nashville and the surrounding counties you can’t buy a home unless you have a conventional mortgage and are willing to buy over the asking price, or you have cash. I got lucky on my house to get in while the interest rate was low.

The solution to this problem is to build more housing. I think there could be a role for the federal government to step in and actually force developers to build more housing (or incentivize if that's more palatable for you neolibs). We have a dramatic lack of new housing and have for a very long time.

It's a similar problem in domestic oil and gas production actually. The private companies themselves need to be forced (or incentivized!) to produce more or mine/drill more domestically. From what I've heard they basically don't want to ramp it up again after the big bust they had a few years back.

The successful defense of Ukraine and re-vitalization of NATO is an achievement.

Inflation obviously is a problem but don't go overboard.

No one really cares about that though. People really only think about foreign policy when it's negative. Relatively recent examples are Iraq or Biden's botched Afghanistan pullout.

Americans just don't care about foreign policy.

Inflation is a big problem. It's been worse here than elsewhere too so blaming it all on general conditions is wrong.

Quit with that junk.  I'm an American.  I care about foreign policy.

It's a jerk move to say "no one really cares about that" right in the face of someone who obviously does care.

I mean that there's not a significant portion of the US population that does. Not literally no one.
