Whoosh nothing. You're trying to give Trump voters too much credit.

His campaign promised to raise taxes on the rich, sorry

No I'm not. Try to understand the nuance. There are millions of fiscal conservatives that vote republican on perceived tax cuts alone. There are also a ton of them that expected congress and the establishment to be able to control him. We know how that turned out... none of the above has anything to do with the millions of mouthbreathers who believe in a Trump as some sort of demigod.

Again nuance, learn it.

Only as long as the end point is the people with money keep getting tax cuts. There are very few principled Republicans left. They exist, but they’ve been pushed to the fringes and would still likely vote for Trump in 2024.

Yeah, I'm talking about Republicans in general, not necessarily those in office. Even those in office only care about tax cuts bc they get donations from the rich and corporations. Its not like they really believe in the economics of it. Its really just scam they can sell.

Thats the point. They don't really believe in some sort of economic policy. Its just buzz words and phrases but then if someone like Trump runs up the deficit, they're easily sold on it bc they don't actually believe in it.

I don't disagree... true conservatives have allowed the crazies to hijack the party.

Now, if the same were happening to Democrats (and don't think it can't happen), what would happen? The mainstream traditional liberal Democrats are already under the leftists purity corkscrew.

The 2 “extremes” really aren’t comparable…

Exactly, they don't really care

They believe they believe in it. It’s pure doublethink.

They're not comparable yet, but there is still a seed of anti-democracy still lingering from the claims of a rigged 2016 primary. The question is how far does it grow. And this isn't just to disparage Bernie's normal-headed supporters, but a portion of his supporters have the same cult-like fealty to him or anyone he supports. With this subportion, the progressive policies are secondary to whether they come from one of his acolytes. We can see this now from all the foot stomping and bashing Biden/Schumer/Pelosi despite their huge wins over the last year.

I think that people should not use the term rigged about the 2016 primaries because it gives credence to the fringe conspiracies about actual vote rigging which I don't believe happened.

I think that it's fair to point out that the Democratic party as a whole was definitely hostile to Bernie in a way that they haven't been towards other candidates in my recollection. I don't buy that it changed the outcome, but there are legitimate gripes to be had. (Again, I voted for Clinton and thought she was the best chance to win).

Personally I do think that that bias violates the spirit of how a (small d) democratic system should run.

The issue is that the primaries of course are actually a private system since they're run by the Democratic Party itself. They aren't beholden to democratic principles. They can and will operate in accordance with what they think is best for them even if it violates the basic idea of transparency and fairness people expect from a democratic election system.

you would be wrong.   If the Democrats force everyone one to pay for free abortions, I will cheer on anyone that blows up an abortion clinic.

Not only is this one of the most despicable posts I've ever read, it moves the goal posts again.  This bastard has gone from screaming "baby killer" to what the real issue is, paying for it.  Fuck this guy.
