I mean Hopkins hasn't helped Watson out this year at all.  Watson just makes that dude look good man...

I'm sorry, this argument just sucks and holds no water.  Yes, QB play matters, even matters the most, but they aren't the only guys on the field.  It's a team sport fellas.

And if you aren't going to change QBs in 2019, then what is the plan to improve the offense and score more points?

It’s funny that people keep posting threads as proof that Marcus has to play better.   Everyone already knows he has to play better.  Talk about beating a dead horse.

We know what the problem is

BTW last year Davis was 2.7 while Matthews, Taylor, and Decker were 2.6. This year Taylor is 3.2, Davis is 3.1, and Sharpe is 3.0. Nice improvement.   I think this issue is a little more com

So losing Hopkins wouldn't hurt Watson's numbers at all right?

You're so close.

Of course it would. And Hopkins losing Watson would hurt his numbers. It was proven before Watson got there.

Hopkins is the best WR in the NFL and he couldn't do enough to make Tom Savage and Brock Osweiller look good.

78 catches and 954 yards and played all 16 games.

This stat is separation per target. Has anyone posted separation per play? I think this stat proves MM had no trust or rapport with his receivers. So he only threw to them when they were more open. He definitely needs to take more risks that's for sure. But you also need to a) be healthy b) be comfortable in a new scheme and gain trust with receivers when your  two most trusted targets are out for the year and c) have decent pass protection which I think everyone will agree we didn't have for much of the year.

No, the team needs to be in a position where they can make more attempts.  Right now, the skill players don't scare anyone and the Oline can't protect the QB.

In response to that Defenses stack players close to the LOS and come hard at the QB betting that the QB won't be able to hurt them.  And they've been right.

All the pieces complement each other.  The Titans had their #1 target go down in Delanie Walker in the first week.  Rishard Mathews quit on the team.  Two of your top 3 targets that they worked with all offseason.  The running game didn't work for 7 weeks.  Mariota kept getting hurt.

It all adds up and it's more than one thing.

Do you want to argue that Mariota needs to be better?  Great.  We can agree.  I'm good with that.

You want to argue that the offensive weapons were fine and Mariota was set up for success this season and this is all on him?  No.  Not even close.

So how would you improve the offense in 2019?

Hope Mariota improves and gets better acclimated with the offense.

- Becomes a more aggressive passer.

- Gets better in the pocket.

- Draft/sign an interior lineman or two.

That's it.

Okay.  Then let's do the same thing with our QB and help get him some more weapons that will make him look better now that we can all agree that surrounding talent can actually help a QB.

We have one. Corey Davis. He rarely throws Davis the ball like Watson throws Hopkins the ball. Actually he never does it.

Watson throws Hopkins 50/50 balls all day. Lets him make plays by being aggressive. Mariota doesn't do that. With Mariota, if you don't have clear separation you're not getting it most of the time.

You always need players for depth. Maybe a No. 2 for cheap if it's available.

We have enough tight ends. We have two competent running backs.

Investing on high draft picks and big free agents isn't necessary.

I'd invest a high pick/FA on defense and maybe one lineman.

Apparently not. If anything, he's the real homer who thinks this org has done a great job on the offensive side of the football less the QB.

Right, because no other QB has to deal with injuries.  Cam lost his #1 WR one year, and ended up being the MVP.  Brady lost his #1 in Gronk and won a SB.  Both Rodgers and Rivers have lost their #1 early in their seasons and have thrown for over 30 TDs.  Matt Ryan turned Harry Douglas into a 1,000 yard receiver after losing Jones.

The surrounding talent is a reasonable excuse for not putting up top QB numbers, but not for piss poor production.

Yeah, I think J-Rob has done a great job overall.
