Popular Post MIKE75
This year is the Titans 20 year anniversary. The team as of Week 12 2018 is 13th in wins out of 32 teams over the past 20 years with 160 wins since the team started in '99 and are only 3 wins from breaking into the top 10 teams in wins from 1999 thru 2018. What that tells me is overall the Titans have been pretty good over the long haul. They have 9 winning seasons,7 postseason appearances,6 postseason wins,3 division titles,2 years NFL best record,2 AFC title app & 1 Super Bowl app. The teams worst period was 4 years straight losing seasons 2012 thru 2015 mainly due to two things and one was bad choices by GM Ruston Webster the second was drafting QB Jake Locker. If you take away that bad stretch '12-'15 the worst the Titans did was 2 years of losing 2004/2005 but never any more than that. That means that during the eras of QB Steve McNair '99-'05 and Vince Young '06-'10 both left with winning records overall. In fact of all the 4 first round franchise QB's McNair,Young,Locker and Mariota there was only one who flat out couldn't win or play and thats Locker. As far as McNair,Young and Mariota go i have enjoyed them all and each one did good things. McNair had 17 game winning drives,Young had 12 game winning drives,Mariota so far has 11 game winning drives and although he was here for roughly the same amount of time VY was here Locker managed to have just 3 game winners. Pitiful. Everyone agrees that Locker was a big mistake all you have to do is look at the win/loss while he was here. In fact his last 2 games vs Dallas and Cincy he had the same stat line both games 17 of 35 and around 47% completed passes. Troy Aikman even commented that he was not an NFL caliber QB during the game. After that year Locker retired and Titan fans had hope again. At first i wasn't happy when we drafted Mariota but one night i sat and looked through a lot of what was said as far as his strengths as well as watching footage of him. I then came away with a much better impression especially when i read that Mariota had a lightning fast memory and could not only recite plays in a flash but remember them as well. Once i knew he had smarts and that he could throw as well as be dangerous with his legs i was very much on board and have been since. Does anyone remember 2016 that was when we had a good offensive line,a good running game and a decent receiving crew led by Delanie Walker and Rishard Matthews. We were also the number one team in the red zone as well. We had a winning season and had the NFL top ranked run game. We also had a stretch of games where we scored 30 vs Miami,28 vs Cleveland,26 vs Indy,36 vs. Jax,35 vs. San Diego,47 vs. Green Bay and 27 vs Chicago. Mariota stats in '16 when we had all we needed on offense .....26TD / 9INT along with 3,500 yards passing. Thats it. When we have good protection from the line,a good run game and a decent wideouts Mariota is solid. We can thrive again like we did in 2016 all thats needed is help to improve the O line, run game, pass game. Mariota has struggled some this year but also set records in a couple games as well reminding folks that he was still a good QB. Mariota is on pace to be the most sacked QB in 2018,he has a very weak line and no run game and the youngest group of wideouts in the NFL. The bottom line is this we need to improve the offensive line, sign better running backs and last but not least it would really help to bring in a good vet WR. We saw how Dallas wideouts improved with Amari Cooper and how Texans improved with Demarious Thomas. Overall all the team has to do is improve those areas on offense and Mariota will thrive again. The worst thing would be to blame Mariota or think he is the reason for the struggles. Each player deserves a certain amount of responsibility for whats happened but overall this is not on Mariota but on the team brass and GM Robinson who needs to place high priority on fixing the line, run game, etc. Even in the face of struggle lately Mariota has managed to set records including the recent MNF game where he completed 22 of 23 which is a 95.7% completion rate the second best in NFL history. Then the Dallas game where he converted 11 of 14 attempts on 3rd down a 78.6 % success rate which was the best not just of 2018 but the last three years as well. Beating New England with 200 passing yards (228), 20 rushing yards (21),and 20 receiving yards (21) in a single game only the third QB in NFL history to have those numbers.Lets not forget about his clutch play leading us to the biggest road comeback in playoff history last year vs Kansas City. Although only in his 4th year he has already beaten Tom Brady,Aaron Rodgers,Drew Brees and Russell Wilson. We have our QBOF already all we need now is our GM to bring in help and make the neccessary changes for improvement. Look below at all Mariota has accomplished with just the first four years of his career....... *Mariota's very first game gained a perfect passer rating of 158.3, making him the first quarterback in NFL history to attain a perfect passer rating in his first regular season game. Mariota became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw four touchdown passes in the first half of his NFL debut. He is also the youngest quarterback to reach the perfect passer rating in his first game as well. *First QB in NFL history to record 6 total TD passes within the first two games of his career *Four games with three or more TDs tied Peyton Manning (1998) as the most ever by a rookie QB. *Became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to have two games with four touchdowns and no interceptions in his first fourth-quarter/overtime comeback in a 34–28 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints, a game in which Mariota threw for a career-high 371 yards and four touchdowns. *First player NFL history with 250+ pass yds, 100+ rush yds & 3 TD passes in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he went 20-of-29, throwing for 268 yards with three touchdowns. He also ran for 112 yards on the day, including an 87-yard run for a touchdown one of the longest in NFL history for a QB. *Mariota's 87 yard run for TD against Jax in Week 13 was the longest run by any player for the 2015 season. *Became the first NFL player since Walter Payton in the 1983 season to pass for a touchdown, rush for a touchdown and catch a touchdown pass of at least 40 yards. At the N.Y. Jets caught a 41-yard passing TD. Mariota became the first quarterback in franchise history to catch a touchdown reception. *Awarded AFC Player of the Week honors for Week One and Week Nine For 2015 Season *Was ranked in the top ten for Yards/Pass Attempts, Yards/Pass Completed for 2015 season *Led Titans to 35 points in one half against Tampa Bay the most scored in one half in 2015 then a year later Led Titans to 35 points in one half against Green Bay the most scored in one half in 2016 *Named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November 2016 after passing for 1,124 yards with 11 TDs and just two interceptions. *Also was AFC Player of the Week for Week Ten For 2016 Season *Led the Titans to number one ranking in red zone for 2016 season *Was ranked in the top ten for passer rating, passing TD, passing TD %, Yds/Pass Attempts, Yds/Pass Completed for 2016 season *Had 16 games with at least two touchdown passes in his first two NFL seasons (tied with Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson) *Has 9 games with 100 passer rating/multiple TD’s only Dan Marino,Russell Wilson and Kurt Warner had more in their first 2 seasons at QB. *As of Thanksgiving Day 2016, Mariota is the first QB in modern NFL history with six four-TD performances in his first 22 career games. No other QB had more to start a career. *Led Titans to a 7-1 record in games decided by 3 points or less in 2016 and 2017 . The .875 winning % in games decided by 3 or fewer points during that stretch is tied with Steelers for the best in the league. *Marcus Mariota is 1 of 5 QBs in NFL history with 9,000-plus pass yards (9,476) and 900-plus rush yards (913) in first three seasons. *Had 40TD and 0INT in red zone in the first 3 years of his career. *Led the NFL with four 4th quarter comebacks and five game winning drives the most of any NFL QB in 2017 *In his first three years he had 8 fourth quarter comebacks and 9 game winning drives. *Mariota also has led the Titans to a better record every year in each of his first three seasons. *Mariota became the first QB in NFL playoff history to catch his own pass for a touchdown vs Kansas City *First player in NFL history to have both a receiving and passing touchdown in a playoff game vs Chiefs/2017 *Led biggest road playoff comeback in NFL history for QB at Kansas City coming back from 18 down winning 22-21 *Led Titans to better record each of his first three years & 2 straight winning seasons as well as the playoffs and a playoff win. *Vs. New England, Became the third QB in NFL history with at least: 200 passing yards (228), 20 rushing yards (21),and 20 receiving yards (21) in a single game. *At Dallas led Titans offense and converted 11 of their 14 attempts on 3rd down a 78.6 % success rate that was the highest in an NFL game in 2018 and also the last 3 years. *Ran 5 times on 3rd down vs Dallas & converted 5 first downs, including one TD. Just 6th time QB converted at least five 3rd downs running since 1991. *At Texans he completed his first 19 passes and finished 22 of 23 passes,95.7% completed,300 yds,147.7 QB rating. *Mariota's 95.7% completion rate 22 of 23 passing at Houston was the second highest-completion percentage in a single game in NFL history with at least 20 attempts. Ironically the record was set just a day before when Phillip Rivers completed 96.6% of his passes 28 of 29 vs Arizona *Mariota is 1 of 5 QBs in NFL history with 10,000-plus pass yards and 1,000-plus rush yards in first 4 seasons. *Mariota’s completion percentage after Week 12 was 70.3. Trailing only Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Kirk Cousins. *As of Week 12 2018 Mariota has 11 game winning drives and 9 fourth quarter comebacks *Mariota has defeated Brees,Brady,Rodgers and Wilson in his short career so far....... He isn't ruining things at all. I just outlined how well Mariota played in '16 when we had a good line, solid run game and a dependable crew of wideouts catching passes. We were number one in red zone. Had the number one run game. Had a winning season and Mariota threw for 26TD, 9INT along with 3500 yards. Fix the line and run game along with bringing in a solid vet WR we will see how well things change for the better. Make the necessary changes and Mariota and the offense will thrive like they did in '16.
MIKE75
I did get frustrated at Mariota recently during a loss but once i sat down and went through everything and watched more closely thats when i realized the man needs help in different areas of the offense and once he gets that help in those areas things will get better. kyle021
Let Jones walk and cut ties with Kline you could move Kelly to RG and sign Pamphile to backup OT and draft an interior OL in 4-5 Sign Mitch Morse at C and retain Spain. That alone improves the OL even if Kline is kept. Then offer John Brown or Chris Conley a nice deal. Prefer Brown 10:10 times but Conley is a very good fallback and would be our 2 over Sharpe. He’s a good WR and fits this offense. Brown however is the exact type of WR we need. Evidenced by the Cook rumors and the failed Taylor experiment and the fact we have/had guys like Camp, Williams and Batson(Who I think can be a solid WR) on our roster. John Brown is the perfect WR for Mariota. Amazing hands. Amazing routes. Impeccable speed. Dangerous. Davis, Brown, Taylor, Batson... that’s a lot of speed. Top it off with a TE like Maxx Williams, Tyler Eifert(who will be cheap r/t injuries) or Kroft or Paulsen and we have a blocking TE next to Conk to open the lanes. At that point you entertain trade offers for really good RBs... Carlos Hyde should’ve been a top FA priority. He won’t this year. Jax is keeping him. So so look at Bryce Loce in the first. We could trade back a few spots and pick up a 3rd and take Love in round 1 and have an elite ground game. He brings so much potential and dynamic ability to the offense in protection, running and receiving. He’s a touchdown machine and a natural runner. Fast as fuck too. He fits this offense to a “T” and reminds me of Devontae Freeman in a way. Perfect back for this offense. Love and Lewis in the same backfield spells trouble. After that... with how loaded this draft is on defense you could stand pat with 1 second and two thirds and take 3 defensive playmakers or you could make a major move to jump back into 1 for a player who slipped that shouldn’t have. Look ok for us to make another push at Suh this offseason. LA won’t be able to resign him and he may want to settle here for a few years. Adding Suh in FA to this front 7 and retaining Wesley and drafting a few LB’s and a CB would do a world of wonders. Grab OL and WRs after that. MIKE75
Its the things Mariota has done over the past few weeks that got me realizing more than ever that he is a valuable player and good QB and that the weakness and mistakes of the offensive line as well as the running backs were not his fault and were making him look bad..... Actually the past few weeks in spite of poor line play/no run game Mariota set some new team/NFL records including..... Beating the Patriots 34-10 their worst Nov/Dec loss in 18 years had 2TD,0 INT and a 125.0 QB rating and became the third QB in NFL history with at least 200 passing yards (228), 20 rushing yards (21),and 20 receiving yards (21) in a single game. In Dallas converting 11 of 14 3rd down plays 78.6 % success rate the best any NFL QB/team has done not only this year but the last 3 years THEN not long after this set a record completing 22 of 23 passes. 96% of his passes,300 yds,147.7 QB rating vs Texans Say what you will, He may not be Joe Montana but very few are. Bottom line is the guy is a franchise QB and could be really good if we get the line revamped and the running game fixed.
