My friend found a shoebox of 1950s bitcoins.  Are old ones worth more or less than new ones?

So funny thing, some people are trying to make "unbroken" whole mined coins a thing that has more value.

It probably won't happen though and really I'm not even sure it could happen. You win satoshi as your mining rewards and it's just that 100 million make a btc... I don't think you get a block reward in any way that is packaged as a single Bitcoin. So it would be up to miners to decide I guess.

andreas antonopoulos has talked about that some. He's a good listen to earmark for you to watch in about 3 years.

Back when Silk Road was a bigger thing and crypto was the easiest way to run transactions through it I could see that being a bigger issue for mass adoption. Since BTC is so institutionalized with government and corporate based entities investing in it who are too big to fail, that's such an afterthought these days (the biggest reason that there will be much more global regulations).

I'm sure there are still lots and lots of people citing dirty money as a reason to not keep your money in crypto, but those people have a laundry list of other reasons to stay out.

Yeah.. Check out the crypto crime reports. There's a bunch of research that goes into how much is being used for illicit activities and it's really not that much.

The other issue is confusing decentralized with anonymous... the very nature of cryptography indicates a ledger and recorded history everyone shares. People can get anonymous crypto tokens but farrr too many people believe it's innately anonymous... when they are leaving a literal bread crumb trail to be followed.

Sorry, but this is what you are missing or don't understand in relation to the anti-crypto stance.

Is there a recorded history or a "bread crumb"?  Yes, you are absolutely correct there is one.

However, the issue is that the bread crumb is not traceable to a specific person.  For example, let's say someone uses 1 million BTC to purchase a bunch of cocaine and illegal assault weapons.  THE FBI can potentially use the block chain to identify the seller as user a8dks-0w=-4a;kdfas=b=w-934m, but they have no idea who the fuck that person is.

Right... unless they have a list of known wallet transactions with that wallet. It can be narrowed down that way.

yes, there are ways around it... but the average person just coming in and saying it's anonymous just isn't true and will leave them with just enough confidence to get them arrested.  Most don't know what the fuck they are doing to go through a mixer.

..but even then there are ways to figure it out.

If you read something kooky, like "petrodollar", quit reading because the author is a conspiracy know-nothing.

By the way, why do the petrodollar nuts never talk about Walmart-dollars,  or BurgerKing-dollars, or AceHardware-dollars or any of the other companies that sell their goods and services for dollars.

Petrodollars is the financial markets equivalent to flat-earth, or elites eat kids to stay young, or the moon landing hoax in "less" sophisticated conspiracy circles.

Read it and then argue about it rather than bashing it without context.

You put too much credence in your own stereotypes of crypto folk. Secondly - to compare the evil caused by big oil to any of the other companies you listed is an embarrassingly bad argument for you.

It's just an article to sell a good v bad story for BTC and its's positive use cases. Oil isnt popular, it's started several wars, it pollutes the earth, it gives money to violent groups of sex traffickers and human rights violators, its blocked good legislation and started the marijuana war that sent millions to prison for no reason... ruining families. You could fill libraries with the evil they have caused  - much under the direction of the USA.

People have been dealing with their shit for 100 years +

That has nothing to do with the US dollar, and if it was not for oil, you would that message would not exist, because we will be set back 100+ years in economic production and technology.

It has everything to do with the US dollar... its what oil is traded in.

You dont  believe a fuckton of atrocities in the middle east occurred because of our intervention?.. for money?

really?

Are you saying we should be greatful to oil and continue to back a losing venture? Get your bleeding oiler heart out of here. We dont owe them a damn thing except to do better than they did.

Are you arguing that its about the dollar being backed by oil?.. and so is walmart.. etc?.. well then it circles back to "fossil fuels is a dying industry" or "we started wars over it and killed kids and made terrorists of them so end it"
