According to the IRS all crypto is "property" but I've never bought a hamburger with a door knob or a window latch before so that's another one for the wtf box.

Of course Bitcoin is a currency. It's also a store of wealth, just like how people have always stored dollars in their savings accounts. Yet you're not questioning that? The difference is dollars had already been established as a medium of exchange. But they had their beginnings too.

Same reason a guy spent 20k bitcoins on pizza that one time. Price discovery was in the zygote stage. It's moved on to the fetus stage.

We were joking.

The value of bitcoin is the fact it's hopefully going to continue to rise in value at the insane rate it has up to this point.

No one is buying a Big mac with bitcoin, least of all NN

Even if people were to accept it at a fine value of a normalized rate of the increase of the market annually... no one would take their 401k and turn it into a credit card to use for every day shit

Nevermind the ways that it's more than just a pocket full of hope, how is the hope of a rise in value not true of any currency in the history of man?

They are in El Sal.

Everyone wants to argue over whether Bitcoin is a currency or an asset. It's both, just like the USD. When you save money your savings qualify as an asset, do they not? But the people in ES are proving that it is just as much a means of exchange/currency as it is means of saving. The fact that it's new, increasing in value, and in price discovery mode doesn't make it any less of a currency. And just because people are spending it doesn't make it any less of an asset.

All currencies start somewhere.

What will probably happen is large trade organizations will be forced to come together to create their own currencies.

There will be competition between 4-5 of those but they need to be incredibly secure and shit will go down because of it.

BTC will still be around and a giant store of value.... and I have a hard time believing almost any other company created currency will be the one that rises to the top. Government wont let that happen.

I agree that it;s a little dumb to use BTC as a currency if it appreciates so much... but it helps the unbanked people get banked  -  with a currency thats decentralized and they know they can trust to not be controlled. They will adopt.. they will use it, then begin to save and then use other currencies or CBDCs to fill the daily trading/purchasing needs.

The other day I wanted to send a friend in the Ukraine $20, and realized is this what BTC is for?

Buy both $10 and $30 of BTC. Either and both will be worth $20 to your friend, depending on the day you send it.

International remittance is a huge opportunity for Bitcoin.

Yes. Companies paying celebrities for endorsements really is nothing in the scheme of things.

I mean, total crypto market cap has increased 6x in the past 1 year to 2.5 trillion dollars. FTX is trying to be the next (better) Coinbase. Of course endorsement and marketing matters in terms of long term growth and adoption.

That's like posting a tweet that TD Ameritrade paid a celebrity to endorse them and saying that it means much for the S&P (crypto market in comparison).... So yes, again your point of a single company paying celebrities to endorse their product does mean absolutely nothing to you or I unless you have ownership or a real stake in FTX

I disagree. Crypto is going mainstream. The fact that Tom Brady would put his name behind this for only money and not believe in the product and or industry? Give me a break.

"Football star Tom Brady, who recently came out as a bitcoin bull, acknowledged that prices have dropped since he revealed his support for the cryptocurrency publicly."

So you're telling me an article written months ago was predicting that Tom Brady would be interested in crypto? So yes, Tom Brady sticking his name to a company, since HE ALREADY ASSOCIATED HIS NAME WITH THE CRYPTO WORLD, means absolutely nothing.

You must be the easiest person to advertise to ever since you probably think that every single different State farm commercial is those guys reevaluating their stance on insurance and emphatically making a brand new even more pronounced stance.
