If there is one thing that Zelda has taught me, it's that fusing a knife to a bat is the ideal solution in this specific fight

Fuck it. I've changed my vote. Knife it is.

So what's more funny is that when I brought this up it was to all the dads at a three-year-old's birthday party.  Obviously everyone had an opinion.  Then one or two of the moms came around and was li

Unless the bat blow is to the head, it's going to take more than one blow to kill someone.

Yes.  This has been admitted all along.  The strategy of the bat isn't to kill in a single blow.  You just need to a good enough hit somewhere that stops the guy from stabbing you.  Then you finish him off with many more hits of the bat.

Unless you stab someone in the heart, it's going to take more than one stab. I watch a few of these forensic files type shows and it really amazes me how someone with 25 stab wounds can crawl to the phone, call 911, get to the hospital and survive.

Same thing here.  You don't need to kill with the first stab.  It's a fight to the death, you won't be leaving the person alive and giving them the chance to crawl to a phone.

Since we are over 20 pages, I will provide a summary for anyone who wants to join the thread.  There are essentially two schools of thought here.

Group A:  These posters would choose the bat as their weapon.  They believe it would be an advantage to have the weapon with an extended reach and which can be used in multiple ways.  They respect the danger of the knife and acknowledge they most likely need to land a solid hit with the bat before the other guy is able to get inside and land a pretty good stab.

Group B:  These posters choose to wield the knife.  They can easily block the swing of a bat with one arm, followed by immediately inflicting a deadly stab wound before the bat can be swung again.  Even if the bat breaks their arm or they take a blow to the ribs or knee, it won't stop them at all from an immediate charge and knife stab.  The only way they lose is if the guy with the bat throws a wild haymaker at their head and gets really lucky.

A bit biased :P but yeah.

Extra emphasis on the fight is between EXACT SAME FIGHTER, there are no differences between anything a la body type, skills, aggression, pain tolerance etc... The only difference is the weapon

I really want to see this scenario acted out between two pretty average guys of similar size, with no special weapons training.

It would be cool if there could be a Sports Science type thing where they put sensors on them to gauge the "pain" or damage caused by a hit.  The computer would buzz ending the fight when someone lands what is determined to be a crippling blow.

Then do 10 mock fights and see how it plays out.

They had that but would put historical warrior figures against each other. Such as a Spartan vs a ninja or samurai vs. cowboy etc

Deadliest warrior was the name I believe

Get some wiffle ball bats and real catchers helmets and see how easy it is to hit someone in the head at the next tailgate.

Was it real life fighting though?  I'm talking about 2 pretty regular guys getting to fight this out.

No but they simulated fights with the pain tolerance and kill shots and all that after doing analysis on the weapons/style with sensors and dummies

Well that seems unrealistic since they didn't have any real adrenaline flowing through their veins LOL

I still maintain it's a lot harder to do damage with a knife than you folks make it out to be.

True.  There's a lot of variables here that aren't being taken into consideration.

Stabbing with anything less than a stiletto type blade is not easy. (Sharpened on both edges forming the point)

I've never stabbed a person but I've cleaned/gutted a lot of game animals including pigs, deer, elk and goat, and most knives do a lousy job of stabbing through skin/hide.  Slicing is the preferred mode of entry, and getting much beyond the skin takes more than a single cut or a LOT of force.  And my hunting knives are always as sharp as they can be.  Certainly sharper than the average kitchen knife or pocket knife.

The effectiveness of the knife is also dependent on what the victim/opponent is wearing.  Try slicing or stabbing through denim sometime, it isn't easy.

Of all the knives I own, my filet knives are probably the most dangerous slasher/slicers, and I'd hate to depend on one to stab something/someone with because the blades are so flexible, even though they do have the finest points on them.  But I have to admit, one could probably slip between a couple of ribs pretty easily once they pierced through the skin.
