The Starter has to be Locker, Period

Starting Locker last year wasn't guaranteed to be better. He could have blown a protection call against the Ravens and gotten injured. That would be worse than we are now.

If he wins the job the our outlook is bright. But if he's blowing protection calls then I'm not shocked to see him still 'learning'.

We can all tell by the recent articles that hass is the media favorite to start. they won't... at least the local guys... give an opinion on who they think should start.

for instance... as recent tennessean article title was "hass plans on working with receivers in washington during the break".

.. in reality, if you read the article it said both guys were planning on working with the WR's there.

that is what bothers me more than anything. there is a bias forming - maybe it is founded - but it is still a media bias/prediction that is attempting to sway fans to their beliefs

Add to the mix the fact they have to exercise their fifth year option (a very expensive option for a QB since he would be guaranteed the average of the top 10 QBs) by the end of Locker's third year or else he becomes a fa at the end of his 4th year; basically they are going to need to know by the end of his third year whether or not they are going to extend him to a very expensive contract, exercise a very expensive one year option, or let him go into his fourth year knowing he can become free at the end of it, meaning he might not be so eager to sign an extension once he hits that fourth year.

Excellent point. I would think the FO would want to see at least two seasons out of Locker as the starter before committing more years to him. The bottom line is that this organization isn't going to come anywhere close to winning a Superbowl with Hasselbeck so the teams needs to see if Locker can be a franchise QB or not. The entire mindset of the organization should be focused on getting Locker ready to play.

How is Locker going to learn to stop blowing calls at the line?

By getting experience.

yes, that is one thing he can learn from playing. I'm sure if he sits, it's b/c the Titans see plenty of things that he can learn by sitting, things we can't see.

But I expect him to start.

Bud needs to step in and force them to start Locker.

But, according to REO, spending huge money on a player like Locker or CJ will have absolutely no bearing on our team's ability to sign any other players. We can just sign as many expensive players as we want, no problem. It's not like there's a salary cap. No worries.

Nice video, terrible audio..... They should have a measured approach to Locker this season, naming MH the straw-man defacto starter while making Locker earn starting/playing time each and every week. There is no doubt Locker will start at least 2-3 games anyway do to MH injury. He should start at least another 5-6 by true or fabricated MH injury. This is the year to seamlessly merge Locker and the accompanied offense into the game planning while milking MH for all the talent and leadership (hopefully equalling wins) he has left in the tank. This will also keep MH on board and more likely to stay on as a mentor/backup for a few more years, in that he will likely need to surrender to the fact that he wont be able to start elsewhere. This would be the best way to maximize personnel in the short and long run while motivating and incentivizing Locker for future success.

I stand by this as how it should and will probably play out.

Locker should start, but I have faith the the coaching staff to make the right decision...it isn't like we have Jeff Fisher as HC anymore.

If they start Hasselbeck then they might as well have Fisher as their head coach.
