Needed him for what? We "legitimately" won a single game all year and he had a grand total of 2 receptions on 4 targets for 17 yards in that one. The other 2 "wins" were thanks to a brain fart and a busted knee. He also only had 2 receptions between those 2 games for 24 yards.

I have a hard time imagining Bryce Oliver would have done worse had he been healthy but we could probably have pulled somebody off the street and they likely do just as good a job at X as Van Morrison.

The joke was he was one of the best wrs on the roster.

On 3rd down Washington will have Burks, Chig and McNichols on the field. If Daniels misses time Mariota will be the QB.

I have no idea what to expect from Brown. I know you better be careful trading with the Eagles.    Brown is about to turn 29, couldn't practice much because of the knee and hamstring issues.

Great job by Eagles. Trade a late 1st for AJ Brown. Get 4 years of top production and a SB from him and then trade him for a 1st.   Well done.

To think my biggest mistake going into last season was van jefferson wasn't worth a roster spot... he wasn't good but holy shit we needed his bum ass lol.

The number of times we've decided the WR group is finally fixed / good - I refuse to do it anymore. We added again this year? Prove to me they don't suck. I'll be late to the party.

Can I interest you in a shiny, brand new pass-forward offensive scheme to help persuade you?

I know it's crazy

But 3rd down RBs do have value. He actually looked pretty good last season in that role

3rd down Rbs can stick around for a long time, esp if you can catch the ball .

Amp Lee and Larry Centers are a couple of 90s guys that came to mind.

I don't forget at all. I was fine with it largely because I thought his knees were cooked and team had had success letting good WRs walk and drafting an at least adequate replacement. Got that wrong af but I still don't hate the thought process.

We’ve talked about this a lot it seems .  But they just picked the wrong guy . It looks way better if they picked Watson or any productive WR.

Heck even if they picked a solid starter type (Tyler Smith?) at another  position , the trade probably ends up being even or closer to it.

100%. Now I do get that at some point a receiver is SO good that you can't take the risk OR your team is so close to making a deep run that you'd rather pay him but that's just not where we were. Our window was firmly closed, the roster was going to be shit with or without AJ, and he was starting to miss games and having both knees drained on a semi-regular basis. Knee issues don't tend to improve or go away as you age. Also, as good as he was with us, he still had not become that top 3 receiver he showed himself to be (partly because our roster held him back). With how many good, young receivers are coming out every year, I was confident we could get at least 80% of AJ for much cheaper. Obviously in hindsight, it was the wrong call but frankly, I'd do it again. I get how that looks crazy but it's what I think.

The trade could be defended more at the time vs. in hindsight since it worked out so horribly. People never mentioned AJ Brown missed 50% of the snaps the year he was traded.

Defending the trade at the time was very reasonable.

Continuing the defend the trade at this point is retarded and should be moved to the Russini thread.

The we were probably definitely headed for a rebuild  aspect can’t be overlooked.

Even at best that core had maybe one year left of contention.  A lot of players were just moving on or just were never going to hit previous high levels of play.

We needed those draft picks to get our core guys for the years from 2022 and onward.

and we whiffed (in 2020-2021 as well), that’s why we are at this part now .

Only silver lining is that if Ward hits as a franchise qb and those bad years would have been worth it.

Amp Lee!!!! Great blast from the past. Dude was like 4’7 200 lbs. Major quicks.

Centers & Ronnie Harmon are the 2 I remember that really stick out. Back then you had career 3rd down backs, that was all they did. Harmon played for the Oilers for 2 years I believe.

I think Darren Sproles might be the last tru 3rd down back..

I loved Harmon with the Chargers, dude was a true weapon. The Oilers signed Harmon and Mel Grey at the same time and both were almost done

I may be wrong but I wonder if AJB’s frame is capping his longevity? The dude is absolutely yoked, he weighed in at 226 at the combine at a shade over 6 feet. I remember looking up a ton of WR’s combines & I think the only one with more weight per inch was N’Keal Harry, funny enough in the same draft. The ‘19 draft had some serious monsters at WR.

Anyway he could be in the 240 neighborhood now, he’s definitely added some weight from his rookie year. His size is a big reason he’s so explosive after the catch, among other things like making catches when covered. But carrying that weight comes with a cost. Btwn all the games & practices & working out, it’s a lot of impact on the knees, feet, and ankles. It’s hard to predict longevity & he could very well dominate for years. I can see him becoming something like a bigger late stage Hopkins, using his size & great hands to be productive even if he can’t get open. I can also see him being shot in a year or two, done by 30.
