Seems counter-productive. We are not. Self-interested corporations are creating AI because they can swallow whole industries and the allocation of labor for themselves. And, the government is allowing, enabling them, to do it because they've been convinced that if they do not do it -- China or some other government will do it and have a nuke of sorts that could take over the world.
