We have bodies and can add a few more in FA and day 3. If we want to take a shot at a guy developing into a #1 the 2027 class is the one. Several big and explosive WRs. Heavy QB draft will push some top tier talent down. This is a pretty good class. There are starting guys 3 rounds deep.

I would rather draft players with much higher upside in rounds 1-3. Like I said we don't need a JAG at WR. We have those and can easily find them in FA. We have more cap room than we know what to do with so I am not worried about the cost of a FA WR.

I would put tate in the top 5 wrs in the last 5 years. He isnt chase or nabors but he is certainly in that next tier. After the 3 elite prospects, there is probably a list of 7-8 guys you could make a case for. Saying he falls around that tier is fair. I don't think he is in the discussion for top 5 WR prospects when comparing to the last 5 drafts as he would be on the back end of the 7-8 guys for me. To be honest if someone said he fell outside the top 10 I think that would be totally fair. Tate isn't even the consensus #1 WR in the 2026 draft class. He is trending as the number 1 guy the closer we get. I also never bought the hype with MHJ. I had rome over him in that draft, by a small margin, but still ahead. Guys tate's size are seldom the route runner he is, and almost no1 has the hands he does. He is a 21 year old technician with all the natural catching ability, instincts and body control you could ask for. I could be wrong, I have been before but in this case I am almost as sure he will be legit as I was about joe alt. You never bought the hype on a 6'3 210lb sub 4.4 Biletnikoff 2x finalist and 1x winner who was also a 2x unanimous all american which was the first unanimous all american WR in the history of Ohio St. despite being referred to as WRU and has produced the 2nd most first round WR draft picks? Oh and his dad was a first ballot HOFer. Got it. Tate's success will be determined by where he goes in the draft. If he goes to a bad team and QB situation, he will have a tough time being good (CLE, MIA, NYJ, etc.). He actually has some decent situations in projected landing spots with NYG, WAS, NO, KC, etc. If he fell outside the top 12 which I don't think will happen but I have seen some mocks having him do so he would be a great pick up. I will be honest the biggest thing about Tate that I struggle with is the fact that he was never the #1 WR on Ohio State. You watch his film and there are some great plays and catches. But if you really watch he was never the guy the defense was focusing on. This left him wide open and unaccounted for many times. He has good size and hands but is he going to be THE guy in the NFL? I'm not as confident as you are. Edited February 24 by CaliTitan3518 titanruss

I did not like mhj tape as much. You can go back and look up what i said in those draft threads. The tldr version is i wasnt sure what to think of nabors or btj for that matter because of the offense but he looked incredible. I liked rome's tape more than mhj and thought he was a better fit for us as well. People talked about mhj like he was the greatest wr prospect of all time. I saw a good wr for sure, but he wasn't head and shoulders above the field by any means in my eyes. As for tate's success being tied to his qb, he is just about the perfect wr to be qb agnostic. He has a giant wing span, tracks the ball well, always catches away from his body and highpoints. His specialty is making the qb look good. I am not saying if you pair him with sanders he would have a 100 catch 1400 yard rookie season or anything like that. But his best skill is put it in my area code and ill do the rest. Edit: i know there was some people on here who were nabors all the way, was speaking in general about the way mhj was viewed. MHJ is on a bad QB team and had failed to live up to the hype thus far. All those college accolades don’t mean shit. And I don’t give a flying fuck if his dad were the first man on the moon; that doesn’t mean success. Shedeur’s dad is Primetime and Shedeur ain’t shit. Tate is coming from the same cloth being from Ohio State. He is a top prospect, not just another guy. Callidus
GLinks
The reason Tate is attractive as a WR prospect ids his hands and his technical knowledge of route running relative to his age. His catch ability alone would raise the floor of our WR room, even if he’s ultimately a #2 at best. Callidus

I mean there’s a reason why positional value matters, esp with a top 5 pick. CaliTitan3518
ctm
You can only sign or draft what is available. What they need this year is two guys who play on the outside that are significantly better than Ayo and Dike. The goal this year is to give Cam some better help so he can take the next step. The goal isn't to wait till 2027 in hopes of finding elite talent. GLinks

I think Tate has shown the ability to elevate his game, and he showed a lot of growth from 24-25. Plus he doesn’t affect the signing of any potential FA acquisitions. Any of Pittman, Robinson, Jennings or Doubs would play a primarily different receiver position than Tate. If taking him at 4 paired with a free agent can help flip the max potential of the unit, they have to consider it. There’s also no guarantee in my mind yet that the top Edge players would fair any batter. That’s a fallacy. I’d like to be more confident in that group, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Tate has a great ceiling but he also has a really high floor at a premium position. TF_Titan, and GLinks
