59% of republicans want the ACA credits extended.

When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, ‘Why can’t you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?’’ Shaheen told reporters.

“We put the Senate back on a path to start doing that today and we’re going to continue to work that way,” she said.

I have no idea what planet these people are living on.

Trump should issue an EO declaring that every American citizen receive a stimulus check for a bazillion dollars a year….and to keep inflation under control, declare that all goods and services be made available for free to all American citizens.

Winning!!!

So the moderate dems are complete, spineless pussies that force a shutdown and then cave while getting absolutely nothing? Say it ain't so. This deal was on the table from day 1, lmao. These are the "adults in the room"? Give me a fucking break. This is why republicans walk all over dems. When everyone knows you're a bitch, acting tough doesn't work because people will call your bluff. These people are an embarrassment.

They are shitty messengers, as is the norm for Dems

We call them progs now. And the progs just aren't realistic and don't understand and every time they win it's because it will only work in exactly that place.

The only things that work are doing all the things nobody ever likes, becoming a laughing stock and insisting people vote for you not because they like you but because you're not as obviously a human piece of shit as the alternative, Joe MAGA.

I love this argument. A bunch of old tone deaf Dem senators in moderate states reopen the government because they had no way to actually win any concessions as the opp party and everyone says it because they are moderate. The way the folded is bullshit but once again the progs miss the boat. There was no off ramp. There was no conceivable policy win available here. You think the Senate GOP let alone the HFC was going to cave and guarantee extension of the ACAs?

I'm annoyed at how the dems folded, same deal they were offered 6 weeks ago, I'm annoyed at the messaging around bipartanship talks, etc... but make no mistake, they weren't going to get what the progressives wanted here.  To think otherwise is just foolish

You hate it but you can make all the arguments in the world to say it was right. And it's exactly like you predicted, really, even though you were exactly wrong about how it would pay out.

Got it. Good talk.

I thought oldschool saying Dems would get blamed was ridiculous but there was no end road for the Dems. Of course Republicans and Trump would get blamed.

Also the future of the Dem party is progressive. Like it or not it's going to have to be that way.

Republicans literally did not care if people died in the streets from starvation.

The only road out of this is winning elections. As long as the elections are fair and free the Dems are going to easily win. The shut down and everything else Republicans have done have paved the way for Dems to win.

What was extending the shutdown longer going to accomplish?

Is there something to be gained from having "the other side" holding a hot potato issue they're being blamed for? Does it become more and more uncomfortable and untenable for them to hold their position?

Is there something to be gained from showing a backbone to a populace that says you have none and hates you for not standing up and fighting? Any chance or desire to change that dynamic?

Is there something to be gained from holding firm on principle and insisting that the other side come to the table? The inherent value to self in consistency of character and conscience aside, is there value in projecting strength and demanding they adapt to you because you're right?

I guess not, if you pre-suppose that it's impossible to win. And that's the question, right? Democrats have to give up so what's wrong with giving up? If the premise requires that Republicans will never cave and Democrats always will and must, I guess they might as well get it over with. If you can't possibly ever not be a loser, being a loser doesn't cost you anything.

so you wanted to keep the Government shutdown for 11 months or until the GOP nuked the filibuster? What was your end game. The only thing I was wrong about was the dems being blamed for the shutdown and that stance was based on historically precedent. You think onces airports started shutting down and SNAP benefits continued to not go out the dems were just going to hold strong forever? You and many progressives like you simply refuse to believe how dumb the country and center it is. Dems sucks but not because the moderates are in charge. The party sucks as a whole.

I do fundamentally refuse to accept that Republicans must never back down and Democrats always must.

That much is true and if every premise offered hinges on that then you'll just have to keep insisting I don't understand.
