The Nicolás Maduro regime said Sunday Venezuela has captured a group of alleged mercenaries with ties to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and accused Washington and Trinidad and Tobago of coordinating military exercises intended to provoke an armed confrontation in the Caribbean.
 
In a statement released by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, the socialist government said the arrests revealed what it described as a “false-flag operation” planned from waters bordering Trinidad and Tobago, or from Trinidadian or Venezuelan territory, “to generate a full-scale military confrontation” against Venezuela.

 
The Venezuelan government did not release any evidence or details about the alleged arrests, such as the number of suspects, their nationalities, or when and where they were detained.

 
Caracas also linked the alleged plot to military drills it claims are being carried out this week by Trinidad and Tobago “under the coordination, financing, and control” of the U.S. Southern Command, calling them “a hostile provocation and a grave threat to the peace of the Caribbean.”

 

 

Would love to hear from the former commander of that group who recently resigned as to what exactly was discussed with him that led to his departure.

Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, criticized the Trump administration and his Republicans colleagues following a briefing on the legality of Caribbean boat strikes that excluded Democrats.

 

In that Wednesday briefing, Trump administration officials shared a document that has been widely sought by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle — an opinion drafted by attorneys at the Department of Justice (DOJ) that argues the strikes that have killed 57 people are within the bounds of the law.

 

“If you’ve got a valid legal opinion, wouldn’t you want to share it with every member? If you believe, I think the administration does, that we know these guys are bad guys, wouldn’t you want to catch them and show the world the drugs and show their history of bad activities?” Warner said, nodding to the typical practice of interdicting boats suspected of ferrying drugs rather than blowing them up.

 

Warner said that all members of Congress, regardless of party, have an obligation to conduct oversight of the White House, particularly when it comes to scrutiny of deadly military action.

“It’s not optional. It’s a freakin’ duty. When an administration decides it can pick and choose which elected representatives get the understanding of their legal argument of why this is needed for military force and only chooses a particular party, it ignores all the checks and balances,” he said.

Keep in mind.....the entire Trump/MAGA worldview is  "us vs them":   you're either with Trump...or you're the enemy.     

 

Trump is constantly making references to "the enemy from within" for those who dare to oppose or disagree with the Trump/MAGA agenda.    In Trump's mind,  "the enemy" includes all Democrats and those who lean that way....  roughly half of all Americans.   

 

So we have a sitting POTUS who not only disrespects and refuses to represent half of all Americans....he views them as enemies to be crushed and destroyed.
