For all my trashing of the guy,  he did figure out a weakness in the Denver defense, the seams .  They were def weak there.  It’s just that we couldn’t take advantage of that because of the drops /inexperience.

 

On that part, I won’t blame him for any of that.

I wouldn't say it's a weakness... It's just that not many QBs could or would attempt to squeeze a ball through a space like this and into a receivers hands in stride

This made me feel more confident about Ward and that he might succeed in spite of Callahan.

 

I’m not as hardcore Fire Callahan as you are but it’s just hard for me to fully buy into the guy.

 

He reminds me of the HC version of Levis. Says all the right things .  But when the lights come up, he screws up catastrophically.

I just want Callahan to not fuck ward up. I dont think he's a great coach but restarting now and basically washing out his rookie year would be awful. Restarting the OL rebuild... etc.

That said, the game showed me 1 of the two things I was looking for, which is arguably the most important...growth and legit NFL traits by Cam Ward.  Brian needs to get better play-calling or he'll be gone before the season is over.  The three passes before halftime was Whisenhunt-bad....and jesus fucking christ Jeff, stop being a fucking retard at the most critical moments.  Him and Lewan seem similar in that they love to help the team snatch defeat out of the clutches of victory.  

I dont think the first half play calling was as bad as some say. outside pulljng pollard for chesnut and then the 3 passes in a row right before half I think the play calling was fine. It was very conservative but as we all saw when they got more agressive, the tackles got creamed. 

 

Its not what you want to see after all the years of ground and pound but in this case I belive it was the correct game plan. 

 

That doesn't excuse the other coaching screwups.

Just wait until he gets that timing. Those seam routes against zone are deadly because they're uncoverable for a split second. Most QBs never have the ability, be it arm talent, reading ability, or testicular fortitude, to try those throws. Give it some time and it will be money.

I agree....I just think to be overly conservative all half just to go full run-and-shoot deep in your own territory right before half is a pretty egregious misstep.  I liked throwing on first down (as I normally do), but when that was blown up, run the fucking ball and at least make them use their timeouts.  

 

Putting Chestnut in may have been Pollard asking for a breather too, so I'm not putting that on BC.

Ya, if they ran the wtf was that screen on first down then ran it after that blew up I don't think anyone would have batted an eye outside asking who screwed up their assignment.

That messed up screen made everything worse. Stopping the clock vs keeping it running in that spot was damaging.

Only the very small plus side for that play, good to see ward knew to throw it at theirbfeet rather than try and do anything with that play. Its your first game, your already moving away from presure in the endzone, easy to see a player panic and run or look for somewhere else to throw it. 

 

You dont want to stop the clock there but it was the right choice in the moment.
