Stump Mitchell has major crossover with this staff - would be a good hire at RBs coach as the wise old sage guy for the offensive staff. I keep coming across connection after connection with him.

Mike Caldwell could be a good option for ILB coach too, Todd Bowles guy who crossed over with Dennard Wilson, and Bowles is fully invested in Larry Foote right now in Tampa.

Steve Jackson would be a good option for secondary or safeties coach - direct crossover with Callahan in Cincy, Wilson in NY, and also most of this current front office with the Titans.

Mick Lombardi would be another name to watch for QBs coach or Sr Offensive Asst.

whoa. you mean all these guys know each other!

On Stump Mitchell. a Browns fan told me he was fired for leaking info to the press. Not sure how accurate that is but thought I'd mention it.

Just for the record, IMO there's a difference between "high school friend" or "longtime friend" and people having worked together or "knowing each other"

Not saying it's a problem in this case. Just something to file away if he's not impressive as OC. My concerns were primarily based on his only being an assistant position coach and then unimpressive as a college OC and seemingly nothing special as passing game coordinator.

It would be nice to have something other than some rando tweeter saying he's a hot candidate (demonstrably false) to hang a hat on. We'll probably get something soon, I would assume.

I've heard this but also heard it was bullshit. Van Pelt and Mitchell canned around the same time. I'd be in on Mitchell.

Fine line between being collaborative and simply delegating a big part of your job to the staffers.....but until Ran starts bawling at the Combine we can give him the benefit of doubt.

The contract guys are at the combine. They are who the agents will be dealing with anyhow.

And Ran seems a little too introverted to fight the crowds to deal with that circus looking for hires and players.

I'm selling myself on ran not being there. He's letting his dudes do the scouting of players and maybe just forming opinions on them from the scouts rather than having agents in his ear building dudes up.

Also friend / high school friend / knowing each other from working together..... none of that matters if they are actually good at their job. It's actually a positive if they have a good working relationship.

This might be the first time you've swayed me to your side.  Probably the last as well.

Iowa there's been plenty of agreement before and will be more if you just let the history...

Agreement is changing my opinion.  You've never done that before, and usually just give me more reason to be sure I'm right.

I haven't followed the whole thread......but I gotta say it's refreshing as hell to have a HC hire who has worked for numerous NFL  organizations, who has worked under several respected and successful NFL head coaches, and who's assembling his own staff from an enormous network of seasoned,  qualified candidates

Compared to what we've been used to seeing, this has been a huge breath of fresh air.
