You have said in the past it has been the talent of this team that has carried it despite the subpar coaching from your perspective. If so why do you think the talent we have now isn’t enough to beat kc/Cincy/buffalo when it has been able to in the past? When did we last beat those teams? The reason I don't think we can is because I'm not convinced the offensive scheme is changing. I hope I'm wrong...honestly....but after 5 years of watching Henry and other backs be run into stacked boxes every early down, I'm assuming that will repeat itself again. If it doesn't, we will do what we have done the past 3 years...compete for the worst division in football, with the prize being a one-and-done in the playoffs. Coaching matters. 6 hours ago, titanruss said: Just this thread? Come on, @IsntLifeFunny...these are the bedfellows you're going to keep? Want to hit up @Bongo59 next? Funny...the guy getting bitch-slapped is usually the one that tries to find friends to support him (even dumb ones), responds to posts with an emoji, and then talks shit in a post without tagging the person so they can respond. Guess who's done that, kiddo?

On 7/28/2023 at 7:17 AM, Mythos27 said: The rapid decline in offensive talent through FA, trades, and injury is why we've struggled offensively. Talent is WAY more important than coaching at the NFL level. Yes some coaches are better than others but the vast majority are still highly competent (not perfect). Bill Belichick is likely the best of all time and the Patriots have been complete garbage since the talent drop off. You can't coach your way out of players who suck. Maybe they foresaw this during the FA period and that's why they didn't go after any FA WR in March. Lol you can stop anytime.

FireInTheHole
It’s okay to admit the Titans are/can be a good team. It’s also okay to find the reasons for optimism in the offense this year. If not, you can feel validated in that Vrabel wasn’t willing to make a change to help the Titans take that next step. However, they look the part in taking steps to evolve the offense. In the past, they have competed with the top teams. If Willis was even serviceable, they beat the Chiefs. And regardless of being in the worst division in football, they have gathered some quality wins over the years. I’m getting excited for this season. It's just opinions on QBs where people here - and only here - disagree and can't stand it when someone isn't afraid to talk shit back to them. Let's see opinions/facts Russ was "wrong" and mocked by morons for... "Fisher is played out and needs to go. He's maxed his career and will never be anything.. " 2 years later half the board agrees and now everyone agrees. "Chris Johnson is a bad ass and getting no help and isn't a horrible receiver" "The team plays better and with more energy when VY is in"... said pre and post saving fishers ass and the season 2x. Yes he was a nutcase...so what? "Mariota got ruined by all the turnover in a textbook case on how to fuck up a QB" "Tannehill is good QB but a choke artist, his salary limits what the GM can do, and he isn't a top 5 player"...oh lord no the sacrilege!! Yes, i hung on to locker and mariota too long and admitted it because I still believed in the build a QB with patience method. All that said @IowaOiler has always been one of the biggest dumbasses on the board who is autistic about Vrabel and literally only comes here to bash him ORRRRR get bitch slapped by me. He literally doesnt say shit for months but comes and tries to find me.. gets worked... then disappears again. its so so so weak.

BudsOilers
The coaching turnover for Mariota is always exaggerated. The big problem was the guy, even at his peak, was hot and cold so you never knew what you would get from him. Mularkey and Robiskey by far did the best in terms of scheming for his skill set and protecting him. All of his flaws pre-draft were what we saw on day 1 and in year 5. It was always on him. Zero evidence of Tannehill wanting to be anywhere but here and he seemed surprised they went QB in round 2. I think it's more about the team wanting options given the overall roster makeup - hoping the young guy hits on a rookie deal and knowing they have the cap space and ability to retain Tannehill year to year through 2025, which seemingly coincides with what one would expect his high level play window to be. If it turns out the Titans have a bad season in 2023, I wouldn't expect any of the high priced vet guys 30 + to come back - Tanny, Henry, Byard, Hopkins - and you go full rebuild. Conversely a 2019-2021 resurgence and they could keep rolling with the vet core pretty easily. seems like most on this board including yourself thought that Tannehill would want an extension and the team would give him one back when the off-season began. Tannehill would want some security beyond this year. tannehill didn't force the Titans to draft Levis...but if he turned down an extension then the Titans had to consider drafting a guy. And if he turned down an extension whos to say he will play under the Franchise tag. Im just speculating of course but seems odd to me the Titans didn't extend Tannehill and we didn't hear a peep from Tannehill or his agent about wanting an extension. BudsOilers
There's zero evidence that the Titans engaged in extension talks with Tannehill. Same for Henry or Byard. I suspect the reasons I laid out is what the Titans were/are thinking. Let 2023 play out and re-evaluate but in theory they could either bring back vets or go young depending on the end results. As for a franchise tag, I'm sure he'd take 38 M in cash no problem if it comes to that.

I'm sure the Titans would like to have a QB play at a high level on a rookie deal rather than pay one $35+ million. I can also see Tannehill wanting to explore his options on the market where he'll likely get a good contract, and would be able to determine where he goes. I don't think the lack of an extension says anything, unless you're desperately looking for it to...which you obviously are.
