Long time Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly predicts TE Mike Gesicki will sign with the Titans

Gesicki is certainly an option that makes sense but I don't think this report is hard evidence that something will happen on this front.

I have said it many times but we certainly should be ready to trade down depending on how things shake out. There are some good mid-late round TEs that an extra pick could help us secure to complement a FA. Not sure we will have the ability to break the bank here so it really depends on the cap situation and the other moves we make.

Gesicki and someone like Jake Ferguson or Jeremy Ruckert is a pairing that makes sense.

Knowing Jrob, this wouldn’t surprise me.

Gesicki is not a TE. He is a WR that plays TE.

He can’t block.

He is such a liability in the blocking game that he barely ever is put in the game in situations where blocking will be necessary.

Deebo Samuel blocked more last season than Gesicki did.

.

Yo I was gonna be mad disappointed if I didn't see u here slaughtering some folks over this idea ?....

Y’know…I just now realized Tannehill’s last season in Miami was Gesicki’s rookie year, so there’s already some level of familiarity between the two of them.

Not that I think there would be any sort of magical instant chemistry…but if JRob has any interest in Gesicki, he’d obviously get plenty of input from RT as to Gesicki’s personality and locker room presence.

And likewise,  you gotta figure Gesicki’s opinion of Tennessee as a potential destination would be heavily influenced by his opinion of Tannehill as a QB and former teammate.

Here's an example of a trade down scenario from PFN's mock simulator. I intentionally skewed balanced in terms of offense/defense and avoided trading down again or taking pie in the  sky prospects that were available outside of logical thinking.

26 & 130 for 52, 84, a future 2nd and future 3rd from Pitt--picks that will be incredibly valuable if we look to draft Tannehill's replacement in 23.

UCLA's Sean Rhyan is available at 52, so we make the move.

At 84, Jake Ferguson fulfills this scenario and is the pick.

52. Sean Rhyan, UCLA

84. Jake Ferguson, Wisconsin

90. Isaiah Thomas, EDGE Oklahoma

143. Smoke Monday, S Auburn

169. Dohnovan West, OG Arizona State

203. Matt Araiza, P SDSU

219. Kana'i Mauga, LB USC

2023 Pitt 2

2023 Pitt 3

Not bad. With this kind of scenario, we get younger on the line and get a replacement for Dane. We save a little cash with Kern and have a potential EDGE prospect meaning we can start grooming Dupree's replacement. A Gesicki signing fits perfectly with this strategy as Ferguson comes in as a third round pick expected to block and be a #2 TE right away.

Saw this on another fan site recently when I was trying to research Tight End blocking stats and grading. It’s from the TE’s last year, but several are few agents again.

If they are dead set on picking up guys with a proven ability to get it done while blocking, then Pharaoh Brown, Mo Alie-Cox, Gerald Everett, and Tyler Kroft could be likely targets.

I wanted us to sign Gerald Everette last off-season. He's a Jonnu Clone and would be fairly affordable.

There is no fucking way they would give up 4 top 100 picks for a late first.

Edit: after thinking about it there is some crazy sliver of a chance of some time like them falls in love with some QB that is there at our pick but it would have to be a team that doesn't have a pick above us or they would have drafted them already.

If we trade back I assume it will be something like 26 for a 2 a 3 and maybe a 6  or 7 if we push for it.

Yeah, that's probably the best we should hope for (an extra 3rd and some late round stuff in exchange for  moving back 8-15 spots or so).

I don’t really see him in that role. I know he was good after the catch this year but that was never his game with the Rams. I don’t think he’s a Swiss Army knife guy. More of a vertical threat than Jonnu. He has stone hands but he’s a pretty good blocker

Can Gesicki block at all? I’m all for a pass catching specialists who is basically the slot guy but if it’s a Jared Cook situation you’re willing limiting your play calling and play design with him on the field. Generally, I think it makes more sense to get a slightly worse receiving tight end who can actually block.

However, if we draft a tight end who can block and is serviceable in the passing game it might not matter. Also, as @tgosaid, it’s almost as if we’re paying for a reallly good slot receiver but with a smaller price tag than Landry or Robert Woods.

He's not a receiving tight end though.

He's a wide receiver.

Corey Davis is more of a tight end than Mike Gesicki is a tight end.

On the real life (not just paper) Depth Chart, it would be:

WR: AJB

WR: Julio Jones

Big Slot: Mike Gesicki

TE: Random Veteran TE or draft pick

I suppose I'd be fine with it. Do you really think Davis is a better blocker than him lol? That's tuff.
